“Fortress of Koules”
The fortress of Koules of Aptera is located 12km east of Chania, at Paleokastro, very close to the village of Megala Chorafia and the ruins of Ancient Aptera. The fortress was built by the Turks after the great Cretan Revolution of 1866, during a programme to re-control Crete with a network of fortifications. It was built by the Turkish Hussein Avni Pasha and is a representative example of 19th century fortress architecture.

Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ στον αντιδήμαρχο Michailakis Stelios που φρόντισε για την καθαριότητα των δρόμων στα χωριά μας από Σκουραχλαδα μέχρι και Θυμια καθώς λόγω κατολισθήσεων θα ήταν αδύνατο το πέρασμα των ιστορικών αυτοκινήτων!!!
