People often ask me which excursion I would choose if I were a tourist on Crete.

My answer is always the same: a sunset cruise.

There is something special about being out at sea in the evening, when the crowds are gone, the water becomes calm and the whole sky slowly changes colour.

You can swim in crystal-clear water, try paddle boarding, enjoy a delicious meal on board and simply relax with a glass of wine while watching the coastline drift by.

And then comes the highlight of the evening — the sunset.

For a few minutes everything turns gold, orange and pink, and the sea reflects every colour of the sky.

Moments like these remind me why I fell in love with Crete in the first place. 🧡

Yesterday, a couple came back to my office after a Jeep Safari.

They didn’t come back with a complaint.

Season 2026 is loading… 🌊

Crete is slowly waking up after winter.
Soon the streets won’t be empty anymore, tavernas will be full again, and the beaches will come back to life ☀️

Every year it starts like this — quiet mornings, empty streets… and then suddenly the island is full of life again.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT CRETE? 🇬🇷☀️
I get this question all the time — and I always say: it depends.

But here’s what people rarely tell you:
April and May can be full of surprises.

Last Easter, my mom came to visit.
She booked an all-inclusive hotel — the plan was simple: relax, and let the kids spend the whole day in the pool.
Well... it rained. A lot.
It was cold, cloudy, and no one even touched the pool 😅

And it’s not just one year.
In May 2023, tourists arrived with nothing but light summer clothes — and ended up wearing the same jeans and jackets they flew in with.

☝️ So, if you're visiting Crete in spring:
Pack layers. A hoodie. Maybe a light raincoat. Just in case.

☀️ Summer (June–August)
No surprises here — just sun, sea, and heat.
Perfect for beach lovers, but it can get really hot, especially inland.

🍇 September — the golden season
My personal favorite!
The sea is warm, the air is soft, and the heat is no longer exhausting.
Perfect for beach days and for exploring.
And don’t get me started on the fruit — figs, grapes, melons everywhere.

🍂 October — hit or miss
Some years it’s a dreamy Indian summer: golden light and calm seas.
Other years — storms and rain for days. Just like that.

White alleys, blue domes, volcano breeze and that feeling you’ll want to relive again and again.

AGELESS CURIOSITY

He came to Crete at 77. Alone. With a camera in hand.
“I just want to see as much as I can,” he said on day one.

The first tour was to Lassithi Plateau and Knossos.
But while photographing the windmills, he got caught in a sudden gust —
"the strongest wind I’ve ever felt in 77 years." 🌬️

He told the story with a smile:
how he tried to steady himself, missed — and had to brace against a lamp post,
tore his trousers, hit his knee, and almost crawled back to the bus.
(Still laughing about it.)

They never made it to Knossos that day —
a 4000-year-old fresco had collapsed in the storm, and the palace was closed.
Our company offered him a free replacement tour the next day: Knossos & Heraklion.
Of course, he said yes. ✅

Then came Matala and the ruins of Gortyna.
Then Spinalonga and Agios Nikolaos.
Then the West: Chania, Kournas, Rethymno.
Five tours. Five days. Always with his camera. 📸

Before retiring, Mr. Bob worked as a gardener at Westminster Abbey 🌿
He taught others — and photography began as a tool to explain.
Now it’s how he connects with the world.

Today was his last day.
He planned to rest… but got bored.
So we sent him to our favorite hidden walk — peaceful, scenic, full of places that whisper “take a photo here.”
He came back glowing ✨

May we all travel like this at 77 — full of curiosity, humor, and heart.
