Clocks went back this weekend. Darker evenings, quieter streets, a bit of rain. Swimming might be off the cards for now, but it’s the perfect time to walk around the centre, especially ahead of Ochi Day, one of Greece’s national holidays.
Pop by Syntagma. Explore the Ancient Agora and the Temple of Hephaestus at your own pace, with fewer people around. Then duck in and out of the antique shops and flea market stalls in Monastiraki. Glass lampshades, hand-painted plates, cups or vases, second-hand books, a postcard, even a traditional tsarouchi. Whatever treasure you stumble on, take a bit of Athens home with you.
Come back to us to dry off over a cosy dinner, or put on some vinyl and relax in your room.
