A GOOD NEIGHBOR...
About 150 meters away from us stands the Chapel of the Prophet Elijah. Since I had no idea what this prophet had to say, I went looking for answers with the help of Google. It was a pleasant surprise to get to know this man as a philosophical neighbor! Here is what I discovered.
The Prophet Elijah speaks of the importance of PEACE AND QUIET in a hectic world. Even back then—some 3,000 years ago! His chapel certainly offers that peace and quiet—just like our own place does. He speaks of the power of stillness and of the sound of a gentle breeze in which he recognized God.
He placed great value on his principles. In a world where ethical values were (and still are) under pressure from self-interest, Elijah inspires us to hold fast to our own MORAL INTEGRITY. Talk about relevant!
And yet, he was only human. World events could leave him so depressed that he would sit under a bush and wish he were dead. He would be completely burnt out mentally.
He shows us that there is room for despair, but also for the sacred duty to move forward afterwards. He speaks of always BEING ON A JOURNEY.
And about letting go... Elijah calls on us to have the courage TO LET GO of tasks at the right moment and pass the baton to a new generation. Might that apply to us, too...?
