Some artists leave their mark on a place. Bukovac and Catat seem to have shaped each other.

Vlaho Bukovac, born in Cavtat in 1855, became one of the central figures of a new artistic generation and one of the most important names in Croatian modern art.
Today, that family home is the Bukovac House Museum, where his paintings, personal objects and atelier still remain. Yet what makes it feel so special is that it still reads first as a home, and only then as a museum.
You can still stand among the walls where a young Bukovac first began discovering what he could do, long before the exhibitions, academies and recognition that followed.
Cavtat was not only where his story began. Its people, light and landscape remained part of his work throughout his life.

Above Cavtat, on the highest point of the Rat peninsula, the Račić Mausoleum reveals its story through detail.

Built between 1920 and 1922 on the site of the old Chapel of St Roch, it was created as a place where architecture, sculpture, and symbolism come together. Its octagonal form opens into a Greek-cross interior, the floor features the symbols of the four Evangelists, and the dome of angel heads draws the eye upward toward the light.

The entire structure was carved from Brač stone, with bronze used only for the door, bell, and angel. Hidden on the bell is the inscription that gives the mausoleum its deeper meaning:
✨“Find out the secret of love; you will solve the mystery of death and believe that life is eternal.” ✨

It is this distinctive visual language that inspired the Hotel Cavtat logo.
