Rewild with Hygge Are you living the life you want, or the one you've become used to? Home of 'The Pause Collection'. A life lived by choice, not just by habit. Too many decisions.

Rewild with Hygge is a space to pause, question familiar patterns and explore what matters to you now. About Rewild with Hygge

The world became very loud. Too many notifications. Too much pressure to always do more, be more and keep up. Rewild with Hygge grew from a simple question:

What if there is another way to live? This page is home to The Pause Journal—a collection of reflections on nature, warmth and the simple rituals that help us reconnect with ourselves when life feels overwhelming. Written from the Koppány Valley in rural Hungary, these reflections are inspired by the changing seasons, woodland walks, tea blending, fire cooking, quiet mornings and the small moments that often pass unnoticed. They are not lessons or life hacks. They are simply observations from someone learning to navigate a busy mind by paying closer attention to the quieter rhythms of life. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the pace of modern life, found yourself longing for more space to think, breathe or simply be, I hope you'll find something here that resonates. Every reflection begins with something that stayed with me. Sometimes it's by the lake, beneath the trees, beside the fire or in a conversation that lingered long after it ended. Sometimes it's simply a thought that refused to leave. Wherever it begins, it becomes an invitation to pause. Rewild with Hygge is the philosophy behind Koppány Pines, our adults-only rural retreat in Hungary. It is where these reflections are lived through nature, shared meals, herbs, slower rhythms and the traditions of rural Hungarian life. Whether you discover us through these words or one day find yourself sitting beside the fire at Koppány Pines, I hope you leave with the same feeling:

There is another way to live. Welcome,

When you finally have time for yourself, do you feel free to enjoy it, or do you feel you should be doing something else?

And if you feel you should be doing something, where do you think that expectation comes from?

🌅 Today's Deeper Pause

Perhaps today you could put your phone aside, step outside or simply sit somewhere comfortable for a little while.

Not to achieve a particular state of relaxation, but to notice what happens when you choose not to immediately move on to the next thing.

What's one small thing you enjoy that you haven't made time for lately?

🌅 Today's Pause

Sometimes even the things we enjoy end up waiting until everything else is finished.

A little painting, a wander outside, reading a few pages with a cup of tea.

I love painting, but I'm not particularly proficient. I know it shouldn't matter, but hey, I'm human!

I love these paint-by-numbers. I need a magnifying glass these days, but the enjoyment is still the same. And it's something easy to pick up and put down.

It makes me wonder why we sometimes feel we need to be good at something to justify spending time doing it.

Or why the things that bring us pleasure so often come after everything else.

🌅 A little question for today

What would you make more time for if you didn't feel you had to be good at it, or have something useful to show for it?

Perhaps today you could give something you enjoy ten minutes. Leave the washing or the next job for a little while.

Not because it achieves anything.

Simply because you enjoy it.

Have you ever wondered why being tired doesn't automatically mean you feel relaxed?

🌅 Today's Pause — A Deeper Pause

I used to think that once I'd finished everything, I would naturally settle. But I could be sitting down, completely exhausted, and still be going over conversations or planning tomorrow.

Learning a little about the nervous system has given me another way to think about that.

Being tired doesn't necessarily mean our minds have stopped responding to the demands of the day. We can be physically exhausted while our thoughts are still occupied with unfinished tasks, worries and decisions.

But I've also started asking myself a simpler question:

What am I expecting myself to settle down in the middle of?

If I'm still checking messages, making decisions and mentally finishing jobs, there hasn't been much of a pause.

And perhaps that's where some of my old habits come into it.

For a long time, I assumed rest was something that happened once everything else was done. But there's nearly always something else that needs doing.

This is where Rewild with Hygge comes into my everyday life. Time outside, a paintbrush, a warm mug, escaping the noise — even weeding my kitchen garden can help me switch my attention to something different.

I'm learning to notice which things feel comforting to me, rather than assuming rest will happen once the list is finished.

Today's deeper question:

Have I made rest something I have to earn by finishing everything else?

And if so, when did I start believing that?

Perhaps the pause isn't something we find when everything is finished.

Perhaps it's something we have to choose to make room for.

It begins with a pause.

What tells your mind that the day is finished?

🌅 Today's Pause

Closing the laptop doesn't always close all the little tabs in my head. There's still something to remember, something to organise, something I meant to do.

But I've started wondering whether it's always about remembering things, or whether I sometimes struggle to accept that I've done enough for one day.

After all, there's nearly always something else that could be done.

One thing I find helpful is writing down the things I don't want to forget. It means I don't have to keep mentally revisiting them all evening.

Then I can choose how I actually want to spend the rest of my day.

Perhaps with a warm drink, a book or simply doing nothing in particular.

Tonight's question:

How do you decide when you've done enough — and is that a decision you consciously make, or one you've never really questioned?

What do you enjoy doing when there's no need to produce anything useful?

🌅 Today's Pause

With the cooler evenings here at Koppány Pines, I find myself drawn back to painting and journalling.

I'm trying to leave a little room for doing something without deciding whether I'm any good at it.

But it makes me wonder when we started feeling that everything we do needs to have a purpose, or that we need to be good at something to enjoy it.

What would you pick up today if the finished result didn't matter?

Perhaps some things are worth doing simply because we enjoy them.

What makes you comfortable when nobody else needs to be considered?

A quiet room? Music? An open window? A blanket, even when everyone else says it's warm enough?

For me, I like to take myself up to our pond and just sit for 15 minutes in peace.

I've been thinking about how easily we can become so used to making things comfortable for other people that we forget to ask ourselves what we actually enjoy.

And sometimes, even when we know what we like, we put it aside because somebody else's preferences seem more important.

🌅 Today's Pause

When was the last time you chose something simply because it made you feel comfortable, without needing to explain or justify it?

Perhaps today you could choose one small comfort purely because you like it.

Do you ever find yourself so absorbed in what you're doing that you suddenly realise you're holding your breath?

I sometimes notice this when I'm concentrating on something. My mind is completely occupied with the task, and I haven't paid much attention to what the rest of me is doing.

It's strange how easily we can become so focused on getting something finished that we forget to notice how we're feeling.

And sometimes we don't realise how tense we've become until we stop.

🌅 Today's Pause

Here's something simple to experiment with: humming.

Gentle humming naturally lengthens the out-breath, which may help us slow our breathing and feel more settled. The sound and vibration also give our busy minds something else to focus on for a moment.

Try taking a comfortable breath in, then softly humming as you breathe out. It can be a single note or part of a familiar tune.

There's no need to hold the note for as long as possible. Just breathe naturally and notice how it feels.

And perhaps there's a question worth considering beyond the breathing itself.

How often do we become so absorbed in what we're doing that we forget to notice what it's doing to us?

It's not about getting another relaxation technique right.

It's about becoming more aware of ourselves, so we can make choices about what we need rather than simply pushing through.

Where do you notice the busy part of your day — in your shoulders, your jaw or your stomach?

For me, it's my shoulders.

Sometimes I'm so busy working out what needs doing that I forget to notice how I'm feeling. Then I realise my shoulders are somewhere near my ears, as though they've decided to help carry the whole list.

There's a physical reason for this. When we're stressed, our muscles can tighten as part of the body's natural response, preparing us for action. We can hold on to that tension without even noticing.

And spending hours leaning over a computer, phone or even a painting doesn't help.

When I finally notice, I try to relax my shoulders and breathe gently. Sometimes I get up and move around for a few minutes.

But I've been thinking about something else.

How often do we pay attention to everything that needs doing, while forgetting to pay attention to ourselves?

🌅 Today's Pause

Take a moment to notice where you're holding tension.

And perhaps ask yourself:

What have I been so busy attending to that I've forgotten to include myself?

You don't necessarily need to change anything immediately. Sometimes noticing is where it begins.

That's part of Rewild with Hygge for me. Learning to include myself in all the things I'm paying attention to.

Do you ever sit down for a rest and immediately remember six things you should be doing?

I can be perfectly comfortable with a cup of tea, while my head has already got up and started another job.

But I've started wondering why sitting doing nothing can sometimes feel so uncomfortable.

Have we become so used to being productive that even our quiet moments come with a list of things we should be doing?

🌅 Today's Pause

Next time your mind starts making another list, perhaps ask yourself:

Does this really need doing now, or have I simply got used to believing that rest must come after everything else?

Because when is everything ever really finished?
