Two centuries of stories beneath one tree.
At Balquisse Heritage Hotel, a boutique hotel in Bali, history isnโt recreated. It is preserved.
These 200-year-old Gladaks, traditional Javanese wooden houses, have already lived several lives.
Built by hand generations ago, they were carefully preserved and brought to Balquisse, where today they rest beneath the vast canopy of a majestic banyan tree in our gardens in Jimbaran.
There is something almost timeless about this corner of the hotel. The weathered timber, the uneven floors, the patina left by two centuries of life โ and above it all, the banyan spreading its branches as if it had always been part of the architecture.
Their age is their beauty. Their imperfections are their history.
For us, a boutique hotel in Bali should feel connected to the island and its stories, rather than simply borrowing its aesthetic.
Whenever possible, we preserve what already has a story to tell.
200-year-old houses. A majestic tree. And another chapter being written in Bali.
