Often mistaken for a bannerfish… but can you spot the difference? 👀🔎

Meet the Moorish Idol — one of the reef’s most distinctive and elegant fish! ✨

🐠 How to identify a Moorish Idol:
🤍 Bold black, white & yellow bands across the body
👃 A long, tubular snout — one of its most distinctive features!
💛 A long, trailing dorsal filament that gives it that unmistakable silhouette
🖤 A solid black tail fin with a thin white edge
〰️ A laterally compressed, almost disc-shaped body

🆚 Moorish Idol vs. Bannerfish:
The tail is a great clue! 👀
Moorish Idols have a black tail, while bannerfish typically have bright yellow tail and dorsal fins. 💛

😂🤿 “Don’t worry, I’ve got 100+ dives. I’m experienced.”

We all know those “experienced divers”… 👀😂

The ones who know exactly what they’re doing… right up until they ask which fin goes on which foot. 🦶🤔
Mask on the forehead? ✅
Equipment assembled creatively? 🔧😬
Forgotten something on the boat? 🫠
Predive safety check? “I’ve done this a hundred times.” 👀

But here’s the thing…

The number of dives in your logbook doesn’t automatically make you a good diver. 📖🤿

Good diving comes from good training, good habits, proper predive checks and staying willing to learn — whether you have 10 dives or 1,000. ✅🧠

🦞✨ FISH FRIDAY FEATURE: HAIRY SQUAT LOBSTER! ✨🦞

Plot twist… this week’s “fish” isn’t a fish at all! 😂 Meet the Hairy Squat Lobster (Lauriea siagiani) — tiny, fluffy and seriously easy to miss on the reef. 👀🦞

📏 How tiny? These little guys measure just 0.4–1 inch (1–2.5 cm)! 🤏

🌏 Where can you find them? They live in the warm tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, with particularly good sightings around Indonesia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. 🌴🌊

🦀🦞 Despite being called a “squat lobster”, they’re close relatives of true lobsters and crabs. Pretty cool for something that looks like it’s wearing a tiny underwater fur coat! 😂

🔍 Their small size and incredible camouflage mean you’ll need to keep those eyes peeled while diving. Because sometimes the most exciting creatures on the reef are the ones hiding right in front of you! 🤿👀
