Since we arrived on Achill in 2010, we’ve heard all about Mayo for Sam… and that famous 75-year curse.

We used to smile about how Mayo’s biggest strength was hope… the hope of good weather returning during a storm, the belief that maybe, just maybe, this could be our year.

But like the sun after the rain, the win has finally come! ☀️🏆

Never ever give up!!!! keep believing in your dreams!

And seeing this incredible team travelling around the county, visiting GAA clubs and meeting communities, and witnessing the importance and impact it has on people… it’s simply magical.

What a moment for Mayo. What a team. What a feeling.

🎒 10 ESSENTIALS FOR YOUR MIKF WEEKEND! 🪁🌊

Heading to Mayo Kite Fest this weekend? Here’s your checklist before you leave home:

🚗 1. Transport
Driving? Expect a few delays, especially with roadworks near Newport. Leave a little earlier, be patient and enjoy the journey! Once you’re on Achill, slow down, drive safely and follow the event parking signs… don’t get distracted by the kites! 😉

🧥 2. What to Wear
It’s looking warm, but this is Ireland! Pack for all seasons. Bring a warm layer, a waterproof, sunscreen, sunglasses and comfortable shoes. The grass around Keel Lake is lovely for wandering.

🎟️ 3. Festival Access
Please use the official entrances. We rely on everyone’s support to keep the festival running. We won’t have security every two metres! 😄 Be sound, play fair and help us make it a great weekend for everyone.

🐶 4. Dogs
Dogs are very welcome, but please keep them on a lead at all times. There’ll be lots of children around… and don’t forget the local sheep!

💧 5. Reusable Water Bottle
Stay hydrated throughout the day.

📱 6. Fully Charged Phone
Bring a power bank if you have one—you’ll be taking plenty of photos and videos!

💳 7. Card & A Little Cash
Food, drinks, treats and local stalls will be waiting for you.

🪑 8. Picnic Blanket or Camping Chairs
The best seats are around Keel Lake! A little shelter or blanket for the kids is always a good idea too.

♻️ 9. Respect the Place
Please leave no trace. Respect Achill Island, its people, its wildlife and the beautiful surroundings that make this festival so special.

😊 10. Bring Your Biggest Smile and stay safe! Mind each other, Mind the little ones, mind everyone! And smile!
