Mount Falcon

Mount Falcon Mount Falcon is a 4 star deluxe, 32 bedroom hotel, with 45 Luxury Lodges and 2 miles of private Wild Atlantic Salmon fishing on the River Moy.
(1299)

Built in 1876 Mount Falcon is the ancestral home of the Knox family who came to Ireland during the Cromwellian years. From 1932 - 1999 Major Robert and Constance Aldridge owned the estate opening the house in the mid 50's as a Hidden Ireland property and was one of the founding members of The Blue Book. The focus on food and service is as impotant today as it was in those days.

Life returns to normal after a whirlwind weekend hosting the EU Presidency.

We were honoured to work with ministers and commissioners from across the European Union as well as members of An Garda Síochána, the Irish Defence Forces, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Department of Social Protection.

The whole Mount Falcon team was involved in this effort and we extend a huge thank you to everyone who put in the extra hours to make this event a resounding success.

As we say slán abhaile to the visiting dignitaries today we look forward to welcoming everyone back onto the estate for the rest of this auspicious year in which we are simultaneously celebrating our 20th year as Mount Falcon hotel and our 150th Anniversary for the manor house, which was built in 1876.

On this day 20-years ago Mount Falcon welcomed its first guest to the hotel.

The Maloney family, who bought the 100-acre estate in 2002, has been entertaining guests on the property ever since with world class fly fishing, a working falconry, and a host of hotel amenities and activities like a spa and leisure centre, afternoon tea, clay pigeon shooting range, golf driving range, and one of the finest restaurants along the Wild Atlantic Way.

The Maloney's continued the legacy left by its former owner and host, Constance "Connie" Aldridge, who ran the home as a country house retreat since 1932 when she and her husband, the Major, took over and turned the property in one of the finest shooting and fishing lodges in Ireland. Major Aldridge had a great love for country pursuits and revelled in the natural resources of the estate with his guests. Numerous guests from all over the world including Vivien Leigh, Peter Sellers, Dr. Patrick Hillery, Jack Lynch, and more recently, Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara, John Cooke and Nick Faldo, have enjoyed all that Mount Falcon has to offer.

The manor house was created from the love of one young man for his new bride - Miss Nina Knox-Gore of Belleek Manor. Utred A. Knox agreed that Nina was so special that she deserved to live in a ‘castle’. In 1872, Utred commissioned the finest Irish architect of the time, James Franklin Fuller, who also designed Ashford Castle, Kylemore Abbey & Farmleigh House, to construct a palatial home at Mount Falcon, an estate of 2,200 acres on the west bank of the River Moy.

In addition to the 20-years of service as the Mount Falcon hotel, we are also celebrating the 150th anniversary of the manor house. This stunning baronial structure looks as impressive today as it would have in 1876 when it was completed.
