Great news for Bantry.
And good news and a future plan will lift the town and all of us.

A permanent home for the festivals … and sure to bring more events, music and creativity to the town . Well done to all involved especially the pioneers who, years ago put their energy and passion into creating what are now world class events .

Cork County Council have granted planning permission for a music Centre in Bantry.
This is one of the most positive developments for Bantry and indeed West Cork in recent times.
West Cork Music, who have for decades brought us the Chamber Music Festival, Masters of Tradition and the West Cork Literary festival have for a number of years had a vision and a dream for a purpose-built centre for musical performance, creativity and learning. That dream has just got a step closer with news that Cork County Council have granted permission for the facility . A couple of years ago myself and the Taoiseach sat down with the board of West Cork Music and pledged our support for this project. Now attention turns to how we fund this project. That is something I am committed to helping this group with.
Last night I had the please of meeting the Director of Masters of Tradition, Clare man Martin Hayes . What a joy to hear him and his fellow musicians play.
Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this to West Cork.

For those of you who sadly won't be able to make Bantry this weekend, we share your disappointment, it promises to be a fabulous weekend of Great Colour, Great Sounds, Great Spectacle, Great Rowing, Great Rivalries and Renwed Camaraderie.
But not to worry, we have your back.

So not being able to be in Bantry is no longer an excuse for missing all the action and spectacle of the All-Ireland Championships.

Sincere condolences to Sean O’Se’s family and friends.
Ballylickey has lost another son: this one charmed the country with his voice and all of us locally, with his song ‘the Strands of Ballylickey’ . I wasn’t able to find his rendition of it online, but indeed we all heard it over the years down the road, in the Ouvane, where Sean performed so many times. But equally lovely and poignant is Sean’s rendition of Bantry Bay.
And he will be at rest, overlooking Bantry Bay.
