There is something comforting about returning to a room that feels just right.

A quiet place to unwind, settle in and let the rest of the evening unfold at your own pace.

Some people choose hospitality as a career.Dermot grew up in it. As the eldest of Aoife and Seamus’s sons, his childhood unfolded alongside Teach de Broc as it grew from a family home into the business it is today. In many ways, the two have grown together.

Dermot is responsible for many of the ideas, improvements and ambitions shaping Teach de Broc’s future, with an almost constant instinct to question how something could be done better. Sometimes that means the things guests immediately notice. More often, it means the small details they may never consciously see, but which ultimately determine how the place makes them feel.

Like everyone in the family, he has to cover a lot of ground. You might find him welcoming guests at reception, serving drinks from behind the bar, carrying luggage, answering enquiries or quietly working behind the scenes long after the lights have gone out. Hospitality is rarely a nine to five profession, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Away from the day to day running of the hotel, Dermot is a musician who is rarely far from a piano or guitar. On the right evening, with a little encouragement, guests may even persuade him to play a song or two, adding another layer to the atmosphere that has always made Teach de Broc feel less like a hotel and more like a home.

For Dermot, carrying Teach de Broc forward means building on everything his parents spent a lifetime creating. The responsibility is not simply to preserve what makes it special, but to keep improving it, carefully and thoughtfully, without losing the warmth and character that have always defined the place.
