SP6 – Sanyinjiao (三阴交) — Traditional explanation

In traditional Chinese medicine, SP6 (Sanyinjiao) means “Meeting of the Three Yin.”

* San (三) = three
* Yin (阴) = yin channels
* Jiao (交) = intersection / meeting

This point is called Sanyinjiao because it is traditionally considered the meeting point of the three yin channels of the leg:

1. Spleen channel (Taiyin)
2. Liver channel (Jueyin)
3. Kidney channel (Shaoyin)

Traditional location:

* On the medial lower leg
* 3 cun above the tip of the medial malleolus
* Just posterior to the medial border of the tibia

Traditional functions (TCM concept)

1. Tonifies Spleen and transforms Dampness

* Spleen governs transportation and transformation
* When weak → damp accumulation, heaviness, poor digestion, loose stool, fatigue

Traditional idea:

“Strengthen Earth so fluids move properly.”

2. Nourishes Liver Blood and moves Liver Qi

* Liver stores blood and ensures smooth flow of Qi
* Used traditionally for stagnation, tension, irregular cycles

Traditional idea:

“When Liver blood is abundant, tendons and emotions remain harmonious.”

3. Tonifies Kidney Yin and Essence

* Kidney stores Jing (Essence) and governs growth, reproduction, water

Traditional idea:

“Kidney is the root of congenital constitution.”

Traditionally used to influence:

* urinary function
* reproductive system
* pelvic regulation

Ancient-style understanding

A classical-style interpretation would say:

“Sanyinjiao gathers the Qi and Blood of the three yin channels; therefore it can nourish deficiency, move stagnation, and regulate the lower body.”

Because SP6 combines Spleen (Blood production) + Liver (Blood storage) + Kidney (Essence), many traditional practitioners view it as one of the most influential yin-regulating points.

One traditional caution: SP6 is classically used carefully during pregnancy unless specifically indicated and performed by a qualified practitioner.

ROBIN HILL HOUSE Is a Peaceful Harbor Retreat with Exceptional Hospitality
Robin Hill House was one of the highlights of our time in Cobh. Perched above the harbor, it offers stunning views, fresh sea breezes, and a level of peace and quiet that made it easy to relax from the moment we arrived.

Deirdre and her team were warm and welcoming, the Irish breakfast was excellent, and evenings by the fire with a cup of tea or glass of wine were a lovely way to end the day.
The property has convenient on-site parking and is an easy walk into town, making it the perfect base for exploring Cobh and Cork Harbour.

Had I known about the holistic treatments before our stay, I would have booked one—something to look forward to on our next visit. Highly recommended.
