Big news for Cong and film history! 🎬 We are incredibly proud to announce that the European Film Academy has officially designated The Quiet Man Museum a Treasure of European Film Culture, celebrating 75 years since John Ford brought his masterpiece to life in Mayo. ✨
We join an elite global list alongside landmarks like the Trevi Fountain! Former President Michael D. Higgins shared his congratulations, calling the museum a "testament to the enduring power of storytelling."
The official plaque unveiling takes place Friday, 12th June at 4:30 PM right here at the museum. The true guests of honour will be our four remaining local villagers who were extras in the movie and involved in the filming in 1951. 💚

75 years ago today the cameras started rolling in Cong as John Ford began filming The Quiet Man, described by movie critics as a love letter to Ireland, with Cong and counties Mayo and Galway being shot to stardom. Later this week on Friday 12th June The Quiet Man Museum will be honoured by The European Film Academy as it awarded the designation “Treasure of European Film Culture”, joining legendary cinematic landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain immortalised in La Dolce Vita and the Felenreitschule Theatre famous from The Sound of Music 🍾

John Wayne had some competition today when Filippo from Italy brought Woody, the Cowboy from Toy Story, to breakfast at Michaeleen’s Manor B&B. ‘Get off your horse and drink your milk’ Woody as Duke would say! Or maybe it’s more a case of ‘This town ain’t big enough for the two of us’ as Woody would say! Thanks to Filippo and his parents who live in Dublin for permission to use this lovely photo 🙏 ❤️
