Well done to all the 5km participants of the LONGFORD MARATHON today. To the Half Marathon, Marathon and Ultra runners and walkers, GOOD LUCK and KEEP GOING.

This was my first ever race (only done a few park runs). It was so well organised. Hope to be back next year.

Our self-catering shepherd’s huts come with everything you need to enjoy a relaxed stay, including a kitchenette with a kettle, toaster, small fridge, two-ring gas hob and microwave. Perfect for preparing your own breakfast, lunch or dinner when you fancy a cosy meal in.

🌿 Our Favourite Picnic & Walking Spots Near Us! 🧺

One of the best things about staying in rural Longford is having so many beautiful places nearby to enjoy the great outdoors. 🌳🥪

There are plenty of opportunities for a countryside picnic, scenic walk, family day out or simply somewhere peaceful to sit back and enjoy the views. So, we thought we’d share some of our favourite places to visit near us:

📍 Leebeen Park, Aughnacliff
A lovely spot with lots of walking routes, picnic benches and a children’s play area. You’ll also find Firecracker Sauna and the QueenBean coffee trailer nearby — perfect for making a day of it! ☕🌿

📍 Corn Hill / Cairn Hill
Fancy a challenge? The walk starts with a steep uphill climb, followed by plenty of ups and downs around the circular route at the top. There are picnic benches and spectacular views across the Longford countryside. ⛰️🌄

📍 Edenmore Bog Walk
A mostly flat and peaceful walk through the bog, with the option to extend your adventure along the surrounding quiet rural roads. There are picnic tables too. 🌾🥾

📍 Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre
A fascinating place to visit with free entry to the visitor centre, plus both short and longer walking routes and picnic benches. A great combination of history, nature and fresh air. 🌿

📍 Newcastle Woods
With a variety of walking routes to explore and picnic tables dotted around the woods, it’s a lovely place to spend a few hours surrounded by nature. 🌲🥾

📍 Belvedere House Gardens & Park
In the next county across, a fantastic day out with a visitor centre, café, picnic areas, beautiful parkland and gardens, plus lots of walking opportunities. You can also look around the house — although it’s worth checking ahead regarding current renovations. 🏡🌳

Whether you fancy a short countryside stroll, a longer hike, a family picnic, spectacular views or simply a peaceful afternoon outdoors, Longford has plenty to offer. ❤️

The Blue Shepherd’s Hut and Purple Shepherd’s Hut each accommodate two guests in one bed. Both provide a simple and comfortable base for exploring the area. 🍰 Chilled Sunday vibes. Got to love a chilled Sunday! 🥰

A lovely swim this afternoon, followed by a well-deserved treat — cake and a smoothie at .longford 🍰🥤

Now it’s time to settle down, put our feet up and enjoy a good film. 🎬✨

Sometimes the simple things make for the perfect weekend — a little exercise, a little indulgence and plenty of time to relax. ❤️

🍽️🌶️ We might be rural, but that doesn't mean we miss out on takeaway nights! 😂

This evening we treated ourselves to a lovely meal from Gurkha's Bistro. We shared everything — starters of ribs and onion bhaji, followed by chilli chicken and Peshawari naan for the main course.

Everything was absolutely delicious… and definitely very spicy! 🌶️🔥

It’s always nice to have a night off from cooking, especially when you can enjoy a takeaway surrounded by the peace and quiet of the countryside. 🌿🏡

🌿 I don’t know where this year is going… it’s absolutely flying! 🌿

We’ve been trying our best to get the garden looking nice and pretty, but honestly, it feels like our main achievement is just keeping on top of the grass! 😂🌱

Thankfully, nature is doing a pretty good job of making everything look beautiful for us. The wildflowers are putting on a gorgeous little display, and we’re loving seeing the garden become a haven for wildlife and pollinators. 🐝🦋🌸

There’s something rather special about sitting back and enjoying the peace and quiet of rural Ireland, surrounded by greenery, wildflowers and the sounds of nature. 🌿💚
Maybe we’ll get the garden finished eventually… but for now, we’ll just call it “wild and natural”! 😉
