Look who wandered into The Lansdowne today for a little catch up, a little plotting and perhaps a little something rather special in the works for the New Year…

That’s all we’re saying for now 🀐

But trust us, this is one you’ll want to watch.

🐾 Happy International Dog Day! 🐾

SΓ©amus would like you to know that The Lansdowne is not just dog friendly. We take our four legged guests rather seriously.

With autumn beginning to settle over Kenmare, it’s one of our favourite times of year to escape to Kerry. Bright mornings, crispy trails, cosy evenings and miles of beautiful walks just waiting to be explored.

And Kenmare is a particularly lovely place to bring your four legged friend.

Wander beneath the trees in Reenagross Woodland Park, take a stroll around Kenmare Peninsula and down to the pier, explore mountain and sea walks and wander back into town, where you’ll find plenty of dog friendly spots to stop for a coffee, drink or bite to eat β™₯️

Back at The Lansdowne, your favourite friend gets a little bit of the hotel treatment too. Our dog friendly room comes complete with their very own William Morris dog bed, bowls and a treat on arrival so there’s no need to pack the kitchen sink. Just pack the lead, the walking boots and your favourite furry travelling companion.

Autumn in Kenmare is calling🍁

Come and discover why we think Kenmare might just be as much of a treat for them as it is for you.

Can you spot The Lansdowne in Kenmare in 1895? πŸ‘€

We came across this wonderful model of Kenmare as it looked in 1895 in the Kenmare Heritage Centre and, of course, we immediately went looking for The Lansdowne.

And there it is, complete with something we absolutely love…

The old archway for the horses and carriages🐴

Long before guests arrived by car, coaches and carriages could pass directly through The Lansdowne from the street into the courtyard behind, where horses could be rested and travellers welcomed after their journey to Kenmare.

The model captures the town at such an interesting moment in its history too. The railway had arrived just two years earlier, in 1893, while the Great Southern Hotel, now the Park Hotel Kenmare, had yet to open.

More than 130 years later, The Lansdowne is still here, still welcoming travellers into the heart of Kenmare 🧑

We’ve taken a closer look at The Lansdowne in 1895 and the fascinating story behind what you can see in the model over on our blog.

πŸ‘‰ Read the full story on our website. Link in bio / stories.

And if you haven’t visited the Kenmare Heritage Centre, put it on your list. This incredible model alone is worth a visit. There is something magical about finding the streets and buildings we know today and seeing what they looked like all those years ago.

We are delighted to welcome the acclaimed Cork singer songwriter and pianist Jack O’Rourke to the intimate surroundings of The Poet’s Lounge for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music.

Described as β€œone of Ireland’s most gifted songwriters”, Jack has captivated audiences with his rich baritone voice, evocative piano playing and beautifully crafted songs. His music blends folk, contemporary and classical influences, exploring themes of love, identity, nature and belonging. His breakthrough song Silence became an anthem during Ireland’s Marriage Equality campaign, while his acclaimed album Wild Place cemented his reputation as one of Ireland’s finest musical storytellers.

Many will know Jack’s beautiful song Sea Swimming, inspired by the restorative power of the Irish sea. Written after discovering the joy of sea swimming during lockdown, Jack describes it as a song about renewal, reconnecting with nature and β€œwashing away burdens and trauma” a sentiment that resonates deeply with anyone who has ever stepped into the Atlantic on Ireland’s wild coastline.

With seating limited to just 70 guests, this is not simply a concert. It is a rare opportunity to experience one of Ireland’s most compelling live performers in an atmosphere where every lyric, every note and every moment can truly be felt.

An Evening with Jack O’Rourke
