"We had no trouble driving here after landing at Dublin at midday. Excellent, safe parking, great reception and a STUNNING adjoining room suite for us and our adult kids with their 9 month old. The automated lighting and shades were very luxurious. Spa-like bath room, mid-century modern sofa area with huge panoramic windows views of the city and Kilkenny Castle. Centered in the heart of town but so quiet. We kept ourselves awake until 8pm and then slept 12 hours…even the baby! We were honoured to welcome Mary Robinson, the former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to the Pembroke Kilkenny.

She stayed last night after delivering the Hubert Butler Annual Lecture at the Kilkenny Arts Festival. In her lecture, she spoke about food sovereignty—the idea that people should have greater control over their own food systems. She also discussed the Irish tradition of ‘meitheal,’ where communities come together to support one another, and whether this approach could provide an alternative in a world increasingly vulnerable to climate change and conflict.
