We’ve had some stunning doggos visiting us with their owners over the past few weeks.

Nelly Spinelly The Jack Russell Terrier was full of fun during her stay and charmed everyone she met with that face. And she made a gorgeous cake! By the end of her visit she was top dog at Barnahown - greeting everyone like the owner!

Harvey and Hailey are the cutest pair. They loved walks around the kitchen garden, a quick wave to the hens and then chilling out by the sunset hot tub. Thanks for testing out our new ‘pup parking’! Now dogs who tend to wander can stay safely by your side while you soak đŸ«§

And we loved the regal Penny - what a lady. She stopped everyone in their tracks. A great sport: she oversaw a competitive game of draughts on our new outdoor thyme board in the courtyard

Of course everyone was offered a tasty sausage for their breakfast, if their diet allowed!

The only problem with hosting all the gorgeous pooches is that we want them all to stay! Hope to see you all again soon đŸŸ

Nothing beats coming home and that’s why we’re so excited to welcome local lady Ciara Kenneally back to home turf for a truly unique pop-up at Barnahown

Having started her culinary career here in Mitchelstown at Market Place, Ciara rose to national and international prominence after winning Ireland’s Young Chef Award in 2022.

In a short time Ciara has enjoyed a stellar career, training and working in some of the best kitchens in the world including the Michelin starred Oak Room at Adare Manor. Ciara likes to diversify her cooking and spent an amazing summer in Barcelona leading small plates gem, Santo Paladar, before returning to The Carraige House in Adare.

You can now find Ciara cooking up a storm at Carton House in Maynooth and for one night only this autumn, at Barnahown in Mitchelstown!

We love all the chefs we welcome to Barnahown but this night will be something really special for us as the local girl comes home. Join Ciara as she takes us on a tour of her interpretation of the modern Golden Vale and Visit Ballyhoura 💚

Saturday 26 September at 7pm, 4-course long table set menu €70, GF option available - please mention when booking. BYO drinks.

Booking is directly with Ciara - drop us an email to receive the booking key:

It’s harvest time in Barnahown so we’ve been busy gathering in some autumn goodies, experimenting with new flavours and calling on old friends for inspo.

With thanks to Farmer Michelle from Open Hearth Farm for helping with all the prep again this season and cleverly realising that a recovering accountant will do best with beds that resemble excel spreadsheets
you have to see it to believe it!

After a stunning season of distracting lots of pests, our nasturtiums are still thriving and they’ve been converted into vinaigrette for our autumn salads.

We had buckets and buckets of beetroot and we’re working on some exciting recipes with Sinead SinĂ©ad Delahunty ‱ DELALICIOUS for our autumn breakfast menus as part of The Edible Town project with Mitchelstown Tidy Towns

And of course the dahlias keep blooming - dispute the slow start and harsh treatment, they seem to like their neighbours: the gigantic pumpkins

Lots more adventures ahead for the micro farm over the next few months đŸŒ±

Thanks to Amy Rose who has worked magic this summer, turning lots of great ingredients into delicious flavours. We’ve got a few more tricks up our sleeve for autumn and winter!

What an honour to be involved with The Edible Town and Mitchelstown Tidy Towns - from 3 to 103, we’re learning and growing with our farmer-in-charge Michelle from Open Hearth Farm.

Thanks to all the team at Bright Sparks, Tearmann Ui Chaoimh and Forrest Hall Mitchelstown for giving a big welcome to our Age Friendly judges yesterday.

I can scarcely believe it
the tiny tot is 2 today!

On this day in 2024 I welcomed the very first guests to Barnahown and no-one has ever panicked more about making a bowl of porridge!

This time last year, we were just about to embark on Phase 2 and despite adding a whole new building in 2025 we also managed to fit in a few other things

One became two in September when Kate officially joined the team! A lady with amazing attention to detail and the biggest grĂĄ for our canine guests

We welcomed our first naming ceremony and we’ve been blessed with so many special family events ever since

Thanks to the wonderful Christina from I N I S H L I V I N G | Luxury Wellness Brand | Ireland I was lucky enough to be invited to Design Kenmare Festival to talk all things regenerative design

The EZ Living Interiors team were one by our most fun guests in The Studio - turning the place inside out!

Looking ahead to the next chapter of our story, I spent some time getting back to the root of things with and Bronte - turns out it’s The Land 💚

We partnered with and lots of lovely local businesses to showcase Georgian Mitchelstown as a glorious destination for boutique weddings

There were LOTS of hikers and we were so happy to host all the gorgeous guests of mol for a community day

We continued to dine like lords and ladies, welcoming back lots of our old favourites including Little Deer Home & Lifestyle MARA ROLDAN and some new stars gramor x and

Thankful for some lovely moments of recognition

And who could forget the FBD billboard

So that was year 2. The rollercoaster rolls on. Who knows where it’ll take us next

Thanks to ALL the many wonderful people who came to stay, shoot or share their special event with us. And to those who ‘just’ lent a hand when we thought the wheels might briefly come off!

Every week people still tell me about their dreams and ask what it takes to bring it to life. My best advice: root yourself in a community of people who will support you no matter what. Though they may think the whole idea is mad, they’ll travel the road with you regardless. Everyone deserves to be surrounded by people like that 💛

Over the past few months, since we opened our new Kildrum Wing and increased our capacity to 14 guests, we have experienced a big increase in groups of friends and multi-generational families visiting Barnahown.

If you’d like to book a getaway for the gang during autumn/winter 2026/7 : we have now opened the 2027 calendar for group bookings - whether that’s exclusive hire of the whole property or a selection of rooms in the new wing.

And you can have best of both worlds with packages including breakfast and in-house dining with our network of local chefs and caterers.

Most recently our ‘zen hen’ loved a pottery class with Whitebridge , our 40th birthday girls enjoyed a private dining experience with chef Deb of ChefDeb , our 70th birthday party created handmade chocolates with Praline Pastry & Chocolate , our Dublin divas combined small plates and incredible cocktails in O'Mahony's Of Watergrasshill and our Belfast guests choose to split into a golfers and hikers group and wrapped up their day of adventure with a luxury BBQ.

For many reasons - from its natural, rural charms to its geographic location - Mitchelstown offers one of the best and most accessible areas to meet-up in Ireland.

Our new fully accessible bedroom, dog friendly policy and inclusive ethos ensure everyone in the gang feels truly welcome in North Cork.

What charming guests we had this week!

It was a big Scandinavian takeover, with our first Norwegian guests including some interiors designers and a few Danes thrown in for good measure 🇳🇮 đŸ‡©đŸ‡° and we gave the Norwegians a lend of the luck of the Irish for a great World Cup round of 32 win ☘

Not to be outdone, Central Europe was out in force too with visitors from Germany and Belgium enjoying a mix of work and leisure đŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș 🇧đŸ‡Ș

EVERYONE ate our new summer special: the Barnahown spinach omelette with Hegarty’s cheddar 🧀

But it was an English man who stole our hearts
by far one of the most charming and discerning guests we’ve had all year: Micky was on a roadtrip taking in Clifden, Mitchesltown and Wexford - from golden coasts to golden vales 💛

Let’s see who next week brings! We love our ever changing chocolate box of guests 💝

Last night we travelled into the heart of the Golden Vale with and deep underground to for a tour like no other.

This unique place - where the three counties meet - between the Galtee mountains and the Knockmealdowns is special to many local people.

Guests often ask why these caves are named after our town and to understand this is to travel back to Georgian times when all these lands - tens of thousands of acres - were part of the famous Mitchelstown estate owned by the Earls of Kingston.

Though many things change, some remain the same: the innovation, energy and vibrancy at the crossroads of Ireland’s greatest counties, in the heart of Munster, lives on 💚

is one of Mitchesltown’s favourite sons because although he lives a fabulous, cosmopolitan life of touring, his heart is never far from Mitchelstown. Be sure to keep an eye on his travels - you never know where you’ll see him popping up next!

These are : full of vibrant communities, world class talent and outstanding nature.

We hope to see you in Mitchelstown soon!

What a pleasure to see Barnahown and featured so beautifully in Ireland's Homes Interiors & Living this month. Be sure to grab a copy - they have an exceptional set of features including one of my favourite topics: murals!

These beautiful images, captured wonderfully by my friend Kirsty Lyons Photography Limerick are the result of a huge team effort with over 50 incredible people: from designers and artisan tradespeople to our amazing construction company and suppliers.

Delivering a big project like this, on time and on budget, to a very high standard needs a lot of commitment and a big team effort. As well as a magic Barnahown project plan!

đŸ‘©đŸ»â€đŸŽ“ If you’d like to come behind-the-scenes in Barnahown and learn more about the approach we took to ‘Build Your Dream Interiors’, our courses will return in the autumn - link in bio

🏡 Of course if you’d can’t wait until then, we have some limited availability remaining for B&B in June and July

You know the feeling: you’ve been out all day adventuring and the last thing you want to do is get dressed up to go out for dinner.

No need! Grab the gang and make a plan for a day of adventures across the Galtees and with a range of history, outdoor wellness and delicious foodie experiences to take your breath away.

Then home to for a well deserved rest. Fire up our complimentary BBQ and following our recipe for the perfect evening:

1. Select the meats of your dreams from our local butchers in Mitchelstown - be sure to call into Hanley’s and Finn’s to see what’s looking good
2. Pop into Kate and the team in for the freshest salads and accompaniments and if you spot Kate’s amazing focaccia, grab it immediately
3. Call to Norma and the girls in for sweets treats - even BBQs deserve a petit four plate!
4. Colm in has the best selection for BBQ pairing - we’re obviously biased and think it has to be but I’ve recently gotten some delicious white and summer rosù wines, after you’ve had your aperitif of course
5. Garnish to taste with rosemary, mint, thyme, lavender and sage from our courtyard garden

Then enjoy a game on our thyme draughts board and lounger area designed by Pat

Because luxury doesn’t mean fancy. It’s quality time, with your favourite people. Eating and drinking the best of our producers. All wrapped up with a sunset soak in the Mountain View hot tub, a chat with the calves and the best sleep you’ve had in ages.

Be sure to pre-book our BBQ spots. In this weather demand is đŸ”„
