Leaving Cert results have been a big topic of conversation around The Bosun all week - among students, parents and plenty of proud and hopeful grandparents too.

Today, we'd simply like to wish every student receiving their results the very best.

For some families, today will bring brilliant news and plenty to celebrate. For others, the results may not be quite what was hoped for - and that's worth remembering too.

There are more routes available now than ever before. Further education and PLC courses here in Cork can offer valuable qualifications in their own right, as well as alternative pathways towards third-level education. Sometimes the route you eventually take isn't the one you had mapped out at 18 or 19.

So whether there's a celebration around the family table over the coming days, or simply a conversation about what comes next, we wish all of Cork's Leaving Cert students well.

One set of results doesn't have to decide the whole journey ahead. 💙

🚧 Planning a visit to The Bosun on the weekend of July 24th - 27th? 🍴🍻

Just a quick heads-up that temporary road closures will be in place from 8:00pm Friday (24 July) until 5:00am Monday (27 July) as part of the ongoing M28 works.

If you're travelling to us from Cork City, Douglas, Rochestown or Carrigaline, please allow a little extra time for your journey and follow the signed diversion routes.

✨ The Bosun is open as normal all weekend, so whether you're joining us for lunch, dinner, drinks or meeting friends by the water, we'll be ready to welcome you.

📍 DISCOVER CORK CITY FROM THE BOSUN – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who commented on our recent East Cork Explorer post. There were some fantastic recommendations from our followers, and we were delighted to update the blog to include many of your suggestions.

Now we're planning the next instalment in our "Discover Cork from The Bosun" series, and this time we're heading into Cork City.

We're putting together what we hope will become the ultimate Cork City culture and heritage walk, taking in some of the city's best-known landmarks, hidden gems, stories, views and experiences.

This time before we publish the guide, we'd love to hear from you.

Aristotle is credited with the saying “One swallow does not a summer make”. His reflection came from the return of swallows from South African shores to Europe in springtime, with his fuller thought being: “One swallow does not a spring make, nor one fine day; similarly one day or brief time of happiness does not make a person entirely happy.”

With the return of the swallows, here at The Bosun we are now serving Three Swallow Powers Irish Whiskey.

🚣‍♀️ The Cork Harbour Festival & Ocean to City Rás Mór is passing through Monkstown this Saturday! 🚣‍♂️

One of Cork Harbour’s most spectacular events returns on Saturday 30th May as over 200 boats, kayaks, currachs, dragon boats and paddleboards make their way through the harbour for Ocean to City - An Rás Mór. The fleet is expected to pass Monkstown from approximately 12:30pm.

If you’re planning to watch the action, The Bosun is the ideal spot to soak up the atmosphere and watch the boats pass by. ⚓

We’ll be open from 12pm with:

🥐 Fresh homemade scones
🍽 Lunch service
🍻 Drinks by the harbour
