This weekend, Mullingar comes alive as Westmeath CCÉ celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, marking 75 years of music, song, dance, friendship and Irish tradition.
After months of planning, rehearsals and hard work behind the scenes, the celebrations are finally here, with an exciting programme taking place across Mullingar from 28th–30th August.
Over the weekend, visitors and locals can enjoy:

🎶 The Ox Mountain Quartet and legendary Kilfenora Céilí Band
💃 Céilí with Rise the Dust
📖 Where It All Began – the story of the founding of Comhaltas
🎵 Youth performances, pub sessions and open sessions
🥁 Marching bands and live music in Market Square
🏛️ Plaque unveiling and historical lecture
⛪ A special Sunday Mass
…and plenty more throughout the weekend!
The celebrations begin tonight at 7.30pm in Mullingar Arts Centre, with a special showcase of Westmeath talent from across the county, followed by the Ox Mountain Quartet.
Please note: Mount Street will be subject to a temporary road closure on Saturday, 29th August, from 4.00pm to 7.00pm to facilitate the celebrations.
This is a fantastic weekend for Mullingar and an opportunity to celebrate the town’s unique place in the history of Comhaltas, which was founded right here in Mullingar in 1951.
We wish everyone involved a hugely successful weekend and encourage businesses, residents and visitors to get involved and enjoy the celebrations!
