Your energetic young hosts will feed you with enthusiasm, beauty and homegrown food in their fine house and fabulous gardens

With its incomparable heritage gardens and long history, Kilmokea is hard to fault. Mark and Emma could not be more gracious, welcoming and so very helpful, they somehow find time to bring up three young children and run a cafe and craft shop here as well. Bedrooms in the m

ain house are in relaxed good taste: thick carpets, lovely beds, smart antiques, delicate fabrics to match their floral names. Two in the converted courtyard suite are simpler but just as inviting. In the evening guests meet over a drink and your hosts make sure everyone is introduced before sitting down in the formal Regency dining room at separate tables. Many ingredients come from the organic walled kitchen garden, eggs from hens that graze the pretty apple orchard: integral parts of Kilmokea's chemical-free botanical treat. The gardens cover seven acres, peacocks strut by the Italian loggia, paths and bridges lead past a trout lake to a hide whence you can watch coastal birds swoop over the estuary. Plus the heated pool, gym, jacuzzi, sauna. We welcome you one and all to this remarkable oasis.

We adore our Champion of Ireland at Kilmokea Gardens .. Come and visit it, open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm. The Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis) the world's oldest and rarest trees, frequently referred to as a "living fossil" or the "dinosaur tree." Belonging to the ancient coniferous family Araucariaceae, its lineage dates back over 200 million years to the Triassic period. It was universally thought to have gone extinct around 2 million years ago until a small, surviving grove was unexpectedly discovered in 1994 within a remote canyon in Australia. David Noble discovered a cluster of unusual trees while canyoning in the rugged sandstone gorges of Wollemi National Park in New South Wales. Botanists quickly realized it was an entirely new genus. Fewer than 100 mature adult individuals remain in the wild. Their precise wilderness location remains a closely guarded government secret to prevent the introduction of devastating pathogens.
DNA testing has revealed that every single wild individual is a direct genetic clone of one another, indicating that the species survived a massive genetic bottleneck.

Geophony. Bird, Rain and Bee song. Natural environmental sounds that we find so soothing.
Recordings online of nature sounds and birdsong benefit us, BUT there is nothing like the real thing. Nothing compares to the real thing.

It is Elderflower cordial time of year and we are serving it in the garden café 😎 , made from the blossoms of the Sambucus nigra tree, a traditional remedy packed with antioxidants, particularly flavonols like quercetin. It supports the immune system, helps reduce inflammation, and alleviates cold, flu, and allergy symptoms by drying excess mucus. It also has anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and diuretic properties.
Elderflower holds a profound spiritual connection as a sacred, protective, and magical plant, often regarded as a bridge between the physical and fae (fairy) realms. Known as the "Elder Mother," it represents the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, acting as a potent symbol of protection, purification, and the enhancement of psychic abilities.

An unforgettable evening at the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival where .europe very generously entertained their clients with Dinner and Opera ✨🎶

Set within the enchanting surroundings of Lismore Castle Gardens, Don Giovanni came to life beneath the summer sky — preceded by dinner in the beautiful marquee in the gardens. 🍷🌿

Lismore’s gardens are renowned for their naturalistic planting style, where formal structure softens into flowing borders, wild textures, and carefully curated abundance and I grabbed the opportunity to explore these unbelievable garden spaces. There’s a wonderful sense that nature is leading the way, with colour and movement unfolding effortlessly through every path and terrace. They do on a grand scale what Kilmokea does on a mini scale!🌸

Opera, gardens, and golden evening light was a truly magical experience in the heart of county Waterford.
