A significant 2,205 Irish pubs closed between 2005 and 2025, according to the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland. Cornamucklagh House needed something to secure its future.

“A rural pub could not simply wait to go back to the way it was before Covid,” says Cormac King, who runs the family business. The answer is Narrow Water Lodges, a suite of six stays just a short stroll from the pub.

The lodges sleep three adults, or two adults and two children, are close to the Carlingford Lough Greenway and due another boost with the 195-metre Narrow Water Bridge scheduled to open in late 2027.

Brennans before: “I don’t think ye’re doing yourselves justice putting in the lodges and thinking everyone’s going to come. It needs to be more special than that.”

And after: “This has to stop traffic when it’s passing, and it will do that now.”
