"Our ancient Gaelic language not only describes things but also summons them into being—a language deeply rooted in the environment that connects us to our surroundings in remarkable ways. Each word is an individual relic of our great storehouse of accumulated wisdom & the life experience of the people who developed it over thousands of years is encoded within it.
For thousands of years, we depended on the natural resources of this island for our survival, developing our own ways of describing the wild & domesticated animals we shared it with as well as the wild & cultivated plants that covered the land & the seabed. The people in Ireland have been rooted to this land, & to this language, for so long our language has an idea of mutual independence deeply ingrained within it." Manchán Mangan
I grew up in a home underpinned by a love of Irish history & a wild eyed wonder for nature. This, alongside the books of many Irish authors inspired our 11 new woodland signs on our woodland walk. Clonalis feels like a magical Kingdom onto its own, where Mother Nature reigns. I hope you enjoy reading these signs as much as I enjoyed creating them.
Entrance to our woodland walk is from Ballindrimiley Hill, through the woodland, exiting via our avenue. Please follow this route as directed.
