Two sisters who could not face seeing their family business close or change hands have reopened a 200-year-old pub and camping site in County Leitrim.
Traditional Irish pub Beirne’s of Battlebridge and the adjoining caravan and camping park closed in December 2025.
The property has been in the Beirne family for around 200 years.
However, it has now been taken over and reopened by the next generation as the Beirne sisters, nurse Enya and teacher Dearbhla, have taken a break from their busy careers to run the family business full time.
“The last person to run it would have been my great-grandmother, and it was my parents who reopened it then in 1995,” said Enya.
“They started with the pub and eventually expanded into a campsite and built the marina, and then we were the first glamping site in Ireland which I think started in 2013.
“It has been growing and growing ever since. It closed in December 2025 but last month, my sister and I decided we didn’t want to let it go.”
