I had an enjoyable day on Sunday sharing my knowledge and passion for traditional and vernacular buildings as part of Heritage Week at Glengarra Mountain Lodge.

A big thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions and joined in the conversation. It was great to see such an interest in our traditional buildings and the skills and methods behind them.

A special thanks to Burncourt Community Council for organising the event and for looking after everyone so generously on the day. It was very much appreciated.

Wishing Diane Rencontre-Fish and her family every success with the sale of Ardfinnan Castle and the bittersweet passing on of such a special family home. It has been a privilege to play a part in the castle's story through the restoration and remedial works carried out over recent years. A remarkable property with a rich history, and one that has been lovingly cared for by generations. Thank you for the kind mention in the article. Best wishes for the next chapter.

A great day of learning and knowledge sharing at The Sallows in Clogheen, where our Regen Ireland farmers took part in a training day led by scientist and regenerative farmer Dr. Jonathan Lundgren and his team.

The training day focused on the importance of farmers learning to monitor their land, training focused on taking soil cores at 60cm and 15cm along transect lines, water infiltration, soil compaction, soil temperature, plant and insect diversity, biomass cover. Each farm will have a baseline test done now and the baseline data will be analysed with many more parameters to give a comprehensive view of the farm test fields.

Each farm will be tested yearly with a subset of the tests but in year 4 the baseline tests will be repeated so we can compare what has and has not improved over the 4 years of the Regen Ireland Trials.

We were delighted to welcome guests involved in Ireland’s new regenerative farming initiative to The Sallows recently. As part of their visit, guests stayed in our eco-accommodation and explored the farm, learning more about the regenerative practices helping to support biodiversity, soil health and sustainable food production for the future.

It was a pleasure to share the story of our farm and to be part of the wider conversation around the future of Irish agriculture following the launch of this important new initiative!

A new initiative to test how regenerative farming practices perform in Irish conditions is now underway across 20 farms nationwide.
