Nature Inspires

The nights are drawing in slowly and the changing evening skies are beautiful this time of year. Some of us are threatened by the thought of late autumn and winter.
Thankfully there is so much happening and Nature Inspires will have some workshops for children and adults up until Halloween.
But in the meantime check out some of the wonderful events happening in the area You might want to share some with friends and family.

While I spent little time gardening this year, I am always surprised how much goodness nature provides. There is my rather wild forest garden project with peas and runner beans, spuds, Jerusalem artichokes, berries and cabbages. Then some areas around the house with cultivated and wild herbs and my small greenhouse (12 sqm) producing soft veg and salads, courgettes, tomatoes and cut and grow salads. Not to forget the hedge rows with ripe blackberries, haws, elderberries and rosehips.....we are being spoilt.
The hens are still laying eggs and all together I love serving all homegrown food....like veggie omelette, Spanish tortilla, a wholesome salad mix or just spuds, beans, spinach and a runny poached egg.

Recent findings of the Nature camp children within our nearby area (less than 200m from our house). Foxes, badgers, pine martens, but also blackbirds, magpies, wood mice and even a bat passing have been recorded. We also discovered foot prints and shaving of trees by deer along with some stripped pine and spruce cones by Squirrels.

Occasionally I still like 'fiddling around' with flowers ....like from my garden and the wild (including dock seed heads, fennel, solidago, viburnum and hypericum berries, montbretia, phlox, reed, fern and the beautiful sunflower like bloom of the Jerusalem artichoke.
Also did bridal flowers for a college friend recently..... great to see so many of that age group moving onto their next stage in life.

For the day that's in it....37 years ago two slightly naive Germans arrived at their forever home....at a boggy area in South Sligo. Thanks to our neighbour Pat Smith and the wider community it felt like home from day 1...
Sharing this 'magical place' with so many children throughout the summer always feels so special. Thanks to each and everyone for your support.

To describe the last group of the summer in one sentence: Rolling up the sleeves and ....work, work,.work.
A very familiar and popular group who is able to self direct some of their favourite activities....and it is a joy to observe their progress over the years.
We can see all these future chefs, architects, builders, artists, engineers, scientists, vets, pottery makers, farmers, comedians, negotiators and peacemakers developing in real-time.
Personally it reminds me of my own boys and their friends childhood days well over 20 years ago....always busy, full of ideas and endless energy....
