Mount Congreve House, home to six generations of Congreves, was built in 1760 by the celebrated local architect John Roberts. Inspired by Mr Lionel de Rothschild’s exceptional garden at Exbury in Hampshire, works began on Mount Congreve's Garden in the 1950s by Garden Director Herman Dool. Ambrose Congreve's passion for his spectacular garden is still evident today. To make the most of your visit, we highly recommend taking a guided tour after which you can relax in the Stables Café where you will be served only the freshest of local produce, prepared & cooked daily. Located in the heart of Mount Congreve, the Secret Garden shop is more than just a gift store. We offer a unique range of gift ideas inspired by the beauty of nature and the gardens. Our products include handmade soaps, beeswax candles and much more. Mount Congreve Gardens are easily accessible by car from the N25, or directly from Waterford Greenway by foot or bike.

Please note that due to the Waterford Viking Marathon, the Greenway entrance will not be accessible. There will also be no parking available in the upper car park or at the House to facilitate the event.

There will be a Fan Zone at Mount Congreve, with a Jazz Band performing on the lawn behind the House, making it the perfect spot to soak up the atmosphere and cheer on participants. It is an excellent location to view both the Half Marathon and Full Marathon runners as they pass through. Runners are expected between 9.25am and 11.45am.

Your azaleas have finished flowering… What next?

June is the perfect time to give your azaleas a trim.

Regular pruning helps keep your plant compact, healthy and full of flowers for years to come.

✂️ For young azaleas: simply trim back around 10 cm to encourage bushier growth.

🌿 For older, woody plants: don’t be afraid to prune them hard. You can cut them back to around 30–40 cm above the ground.

It may look drastic at first, but don’t worry!

🌱 Within a month, you’ll see fresh new leaves.
🌱 In the second year, those new shoots will develop into strong branches.
🌸 By the third year, your azalea will reward you with a spectacular display of blooms once again.

What a pleasure it was to welcome Ireland with Michael 🎬 and the Ireland with Michael team to Mount Congreve Gardens yesterday.

With cameras rolling under blue skies, Michael explored the house, gardens, estate and stories that make Mount Congreve one of the great gardens of the world. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase this special place to PBS viewers across the United States and to share a little of what makes Waterford so unique.

A huge thank you to Michael Londra and his fantastic crew for spending the afternoon with us and to Tourism Ireland for the opportunity. We can't wait to see Mount Congreve featured in Season 8 and look forward to welcoming many more visitors inspired by their journey through Ireland.
