☀️ A Fantastic Family Day on Clare Island! 🌊
What a fantastic day we had on Clare Island—the Wednesday right after Mayo won the All-Ireland! Every event in Mayo now starts from the 26th of July.
The morning started out pretty wet and miserable as we packed up at The Yellow House,Self Catering Holiday Home, Westport and headed for Roonagh Pier.Grandparents, children, grandkids and family dog, Lottie. As luck would have it, the moment we arrived, the rain cleared right up! 🌦️➡️🌤️
We hopped on the Tormore with O'Malley Ferries for the quick 20-minute crossing—and huge thanks to the crew, who couldn't have been more helpful! ⛴️
By the time we stepped onto Clare Island, the sun was shining. We spent most of our time at Castle Cove, a lovely hidden gem tucked right beside Grace O’Malley’s 16th-century tower house. It’s a quiet alternative to the main Blue Flag beach, perfect for a peaceful dip right beneath the historic castle walls.
The grandkids had a ball swimming and playing on the beach, the old man even braved the water for a dip, and our madra spent the afternoon happily racing around the sand! 🐶🏊♂️
We finished off a brilliant day with some top-notch food at the Clare Island Community Centre and the Anchor Bar & Bistro. An absolute unforgettable family day out! ❤️
