Happy National Parrot Day...

At Gharoa, we believe that heritage isn't just trapped inside glass cases or woven into historic textiles, it lives in our shared ecosystem. By nurturing green pockets and keeping urban nature thriving, we ensure that the natural melodies of Delhi remain a vibrant part of our daily lives.

Let's protect our feathered friends and keep our cities welcoming for them.

Happy National Creativity Day..

At Gharoa, we believe that creativity isn't confined to a canvas or a gallery wall, it breathes in the objects we touch, reuse, and reimagine every single day.

True creativity is a slow, intentional act of love. It’s about taking the ordinary and transforming it into a personal sanctuary of art using tiny, patient details. This is a celebration of the handmade spirit.

Creating something with your own two hands is a beautiful act of preservation. It connects us to our roots, keeps our heritage of patience alive, and reminds us to find beauty in utility.

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."

Step away from the digital noise, look around your home, and infuse a little bit of your own story into a daily object.

"See a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have good luck."

Today, May 23rd, is all about the simple, universal joy of spotting a flash of metal on the ground and pocketing a little bit of unexpected fortune. But here at Gharoa, it got us thinking that what really makes a coin lucky?

Is it just a superstition, or is the true luck found in the fact that these tiny pieces of history managed to survive the passage of time, wear, and countless hands just to meet us today?

See two completely different kinds of "lucky survivors" from our collection:

A nostalgic glimpse into 20th-century Indian history—our meticulously preserved page of decimal currency. Remember the scalloped 10 Paise, the square 5 Paise, or the elusive hexagonal 3 Paise? Kept safe in flips, the real luck here is their preservation, keeping the stories of a young, independent nation crisp and intact.

The ultimate lucky find is an ancient, hand struck coin cradled in a palm. Long before modern mints, this piece was heated and manually hammered between hand carved dies, making it entirely unique. It survived ancient trade routes, centuries in the soil, and political shifts to rest in our hands today. It doesn't just feel lucky; it feels like a direct, tactile whisper from antiquity.

Remember the specific coin in your collection, an old family heirloom, a vintage piece, or a random street find.

"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."

Let us commit to making small, deliberate changes. Plant a native sapling, upcycle a piece of waste, support a traditional craftsman who uses sustainable methods, or simply take a moment to step away from the digital screen and appreciate the bird song outside your window.

From our home and garden to yours, let us pledge to protect, preserve, and celebrate the magnificent diversity of our beautiful planet.

Gharoa Celebrating International Museum Day on the Global Stage of ICOM.

We are incredibly proud to announce that on this International Museum Day, the core pillars of Gharoa Home Museum are presenting three groundbreaking research papers that capture the essence, philosophy, and soul of our creative sanctuary.

Our mission has always been to prove that preservation isn't just for massive institutions— it begins at home, rooted in community, memory, and sustainability. These presentations reflect years of documentation, passion, and tireless effort to keep living heritage alive.

Featured Research Papers are

"Gharoa - A Place of Cultural Diversity" Presented by: Supretha Das
An exploration of how a personal museum space serves as a vibrant crossroads for regional arts, traditional textiles, and diverse historical narratives.

"Preserving Community Identity: Gharoa Home Museum's Toy Collection as a Model for Sustainable Museum Culture" Presented by: Namrata Bharadwaj
A deep dive into our vintage and traditional toy collections, illustrating how localized, sustainable preservation can safeguard the storytelling and identity of generations.

"Inhabited Museum: Mask Tradition of Gharoa" Presented by: Shalini Varma
Examining the concept of an 'inhabited museum' through our curated collection of traditional masks, exploring how performance, ritual, and daily life intersect.

The Spirit of Living Heritage.
A museum is not merely a collection of silent objects behind glass; it is a living, breathing ecosystem fueled by the people who protect it and the visitors who engage with it.

To Supretha, Namrata and Shalini—thank you for being the pillars of Gharoa. Your research sheds light on the vital role that independent, personal museums play in the broader landscape of global heritage preservation. By championing the "slow craft" movement and sustainable curation, you are helping to redefine what a museum can be.

Happy International Museum Day from all of us at Gharoa! Let us continue to look out at the world through the lens of our shared history, preserving today what the future will cherish tomorrow.

Happy National Mushroom Hunting Day!

While many head into the woods today searching for culinary treasures, our eyes are always fixed on the incredible ways nature intersects with traditional craftsmanship, heritage, and folklore.

Take a look at this remarkable mushroom mask from our collection, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, India.

Local artisans saw past a simple shelf fungus and envisioned a spirit of the forest. By preserving the magnificent, maze like gills of the mushroom to serve as an elaborate, natural frame, they hand painted the center to bring a vibrant tribal face to life. It is a stunning testament to a philosophy we hold dear, seeing the creative potential in the wild world around us, where nature and art breathe as one.

At Gharoa, we believe that history and art aren't just found in grand galleries, they grow on trees, live in everyday vintage objects, and thrive in the sustainable traditions of our rural communities.

Preserving Stories, One Artifact at a Time.

Nature has always inspired us to create.
