Today Whispering Waters turns 5! What a journey it's been!
From 3 families to 9.
From 1 caretaker to 3 full time staff.
From rocky compacted over growth to raised beds with healthy soil teeming with life.

Which now yields fruits and vegetables, grains, tubers, pulses and wild edibles also!

The biodiversity growing and diversifying in leaps and bounds.
Where we once longed to see a single butterfly, we now meet newer species visiting and some making it their home.

Insects, snakes, mongooses, different birds..all responding to the environment we have been creating for them..

We are grateful to have come thus far.. and eagerly look ahead..to be able to share our spaces with, to educate and inspire more folks to be mindful stewards of the gifts in nature that we have been bestowed with.

sidnair and Akanksha we look forward to having y'all in the frame soon too!

Anushree Chitnis and "ongkon" thank you for your invaluable inputs in getting us here.

Ata ur Rahman we thank you for making our vision of a community centre see the light of day.

Pandit Waghmare our supervisor who holds fort, day in and day out, we are very grateful for you! Ably supported by Sachin Jadhav and Vasant Waghmare..

We couldn't have come this far without all of you!

What you're looking at in these two pictures, are the remains of 2 logs of wood, which used to be the vertical supports of a trellis.

The wood degenerated over time, the termites came and the rains brought the bracket fungi that you see in these pics.

We replaced the supports and laid these logs onto raised beds made earlier, which were unused.

They lay there continuing to decompose and make the most beautiful humus enhancing the soil quality of the raised bed, and today it looks like the bracket dungi are growing out of the ground..but there is beautiful slow work going on..and it's marvellous to have those moments of realisation of how much goes on beyond what rhe naked eyes can see!

The backwaters are full. Time to get the kayak out!

And take our youngest community member out for a paddle..

The first kayak ride.. documented for posterity 😊

How would you caption this pic? 😀

Time to get lost in thoughts..surrounded by this beauty!

Our community centre..from the other side of the backwaters..

Being in the stream..a different experience.altogether!

Solo kayaking..

Paddling.out alone,.while the daughter swims.

A view we can't get enough of..

Forging in the forest..

Taking time to enjoy our hidden waterfall..

Helping each other plant on our plots
