Gossaigaon Woman Died in Suspected Illegal Abortion; Two Arrested

Gossaigaon, November 5: A 24-year-old woman allegedly lost her life during an attempt to terminate her pregnancy illegally in Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar district, triggering serious concerns over the involvement of unqualified medical practitioners.

According to reports, the woman died while undergoing an abortion allegedly conducted by a fake doctor. The incident has raised questions about illegal medical practices and the risks associated with seeking treatment from unqualified individuals.

In connection with the case, police have arrested two persons, identified as Rajkumar Murmu of Pakriguri village under Serfanguri Police Station and Abdul Karim Sheikh of Palashkandi village under Tamarhat Police Station.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the area, with local residents calling for stringent action against those involved in illegal medical activities and the operation of unauthorised healthcare facilities.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for strict monitoring of medical practices to prevent such tragedies.

Manoj Kumar Oreon Forest Minister West Bengal interaction with media persons at Kokrajhar today.

A tigress from West Bengal’s Buxa Tiger Reserve which had crossed into Assam was finally tranquilised by forest officials at Gelaguri village in Kokrajhar district today after 11 days.

The tigress reportedly identified as "Duar Rani" had triggered panic among villagers after being spotted roaming freely in paddy fields and nearby areas. Its frequent movement from one location to another had kept the forest departments of both Assam and West Bengal on their toes.

West Bengal Forest Minister also extended support to the rescue operation and remained present at the spot until the operation was completed.

Sapon Roy retired army officer returned home after 28 years of service

KOKRAJHAR: After serving the nation for 28 years, retired Army officer Sapon Roy has returned home.

A resident of Mokrapara village in Kokrajhar district, Sapon Roy joined the Indian Army on October 6, 1998. He retired from service on October 31, 2026.

He arrived at Kokrajhar Railway Station by train today, where family members, well-wishers and local residents gave him a warm welcome.

11-DAY TIGER SCARE ENDS IN KOKRAJHAR: DUWAR RANI CAPTURED IN JOINT RESCUED OPERATION

KOKRAJHAR: After days of uncertainty and fear among villagers, the operation to rescue the wandering tigress, Duwar Rani, has finally been completed successfully in Kokrajhar district.

The pregnant tigress was safely captured at Gilaguri village under Dotma through a coordinated operation involving forest officials from Assam and West Bengal.

The rescue team successfully tranquilized the animal with the support of three elephants and three JCB machines. The operation required careful coordination as officials worked to ensure the safety of both the animal and local residents.

Following her capture, Duwar Rani was transported to West Bengal under the supervision of the forest department.

West Bengal Forest Minister Manoj Kumar Oraon expressed satisfaction over the successful operation and acknowledged the efforts of the teams involved in the rescue mission.

With the tigress safely rescued and shifted to West Bengal, the operation has brought relief to villagers who had been concerned about her frequent movement in the area.

Finally, the tigress named Duwar Rani from West Bengal has been successfully rescued.

With the assistance of the Assam Forest Department, officials from the West Bengal Forest Department successfully tranquilized the tigress at Gilaguri in Dotma, Kokrajhar.

The rescue operation was successfully completed with the help of three elephants and three JCB machines.

After being tranquilized, the tigress, Duwar Rani, was immediately transported to West Bengal.

West Bengal Forest Minister Manoj Kumar Oraon has expressed his satisfaction over the successful rescue operation.
