Mornings at Jade House ~ vegetarian today
Sourdough tartines (guacamole, burrata topped with fresh tomatoes ,rocket leaves from our garden and crunchy peanut butter with banana and blueberries for topping ) , accompanied by honey glazed brioche slices ,eggless pancakes , poha and ripe apricots from the garden.
We sourced the delicious sourdough and brioche from this time .

You may have seen hundreds of these during your trip to ladakh and wondered what they were or what they signified ..

Chortens or stupas act as a religious focal point in the landscape and are believed to have a positive effect on the people who live nearby or pass through the area.

These iconic Buddhist structures are seen all over ladakh ,from glorious golden chortens in important monasteries and more centrally located sites to small ones, slightly battered by the elements, sitting alongside remote mountain trails. Like mani stones and prayer flags, chortens will no doubt feature prominently in your memories of the region.
They are often placed alongside trails at high points or at spiritually significant locations and contain religious relics,offerings and prayers.

Building a chorten is an especially karmic act, helping to ensure fortunate rebirths.
