Uttarakhand has achieved a historic milestone by becoming India's sixth fully literate state under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ULLAS – New India Literacy Programme. The state crossed the prescribed adult literacy benchmark of 98% after a massive literacy drive, marking a significant achievement in education and social development.

For the tourism and homestay sector, this is more than just an education milestone. Higher literacy strengthens digital adoption, financial awareness, hospitality standards, and entrepreneurship—key factors that empower local communities to successfully operate and manage homestays.
