At Dhyana Malai, our orchard farm homestay near Kodaikanal, the birds are truly in their element, weaving a joyous symphony from the quiet hush of dawn until the soft glow of twilight.

Curious and captivated, I spent different times of the day seated on our terrace, simply listening and observing. To my absolute delight, just in a single day, with the help of Merlin Bird ID app, I discovered that we are blessed with at least 24 different species of feathered neighbours gracing our skies and trees. 🕊️✨

Nestled in the Palani Hills of the Western Ghats, this region is a celebrated biodiversity hotspot, home to more than 196 bird species, including several endemic treasures.

With their lush montane forests and sweeping grasslands, these hills offer a sanctuary for birdwatchers, sustaining impressive populations of raptors, flycatchers, and a vibrant array of migratory visitors. 🌿🕊️

Upon the mist-kissed heights of Dhyanamalai,
Where mountains whisper secrets to the sky,
A thousand blooms in quiet splendour sway,
Painting dawn in fragrant lullaby.

The wind chimes sing in silver, trembling notes,
As birds compose their hymns in hidden trees;
Each melody on gentle currents floats,
Carried softly by the mountain breeze.

Cool fingers of the air caress your face,
With tender touch both soothing and sublime;
And freshly plucked oranges fill the space
With citrus-sweet perfume of time.

There, in that hush where earth and heaven meet,
The restless heart grows tranquil, light, and free—
For Dhyanamalai is not just a retreat,
But nature’s hymn to silent ecstasy.
