The gardens are green again, the lakes are full and evenings at Fort Dhikola are waiting once more. After our annual summer closure, we’re delighted to welcome guests back to Shahpura Bagh for another season in rural Rajasthan.

For over four centuries, Fort Dhikola has stood above the village of Dhikola, part of our family’s history and a place we remain privileged to care for today.

For guests of Shahpura Bagh, an evening at the fort offers a rare glimpse into this continuing legacy. Arrive as the sun begins to fall over the surrounding countryside, settle in for a sundowner from the ramparts, or stay on for a private candlelit dinner prepared within the fort.

Long before sustainability became a global conversation, Shahpura was shaped by a deeper understanding of land, water and responsibility.

More than a century ago, our ancestor Rajadhiraj Nahar Singhji chose to invest not in monuments, but in water. His vision gave rise to Nahar Sagar and a network of lakes and water bodies that continue to sustain agriculture, wildlife, birdlife and communities across the region today.

At Shahpura Bagh, this legacy is not something we simply inherit. It is something we continue to care for.

From restoring lakes and maintaining water systems to recycling grey water, using solar water heating, supporting local farming and working closely with the communities around us, our idea of conservation is rooted in continuity.
