The train from Lecco to Varenna and the walk up to the Castello di Vezio. We tried to find the castello last May but took a wrong turn so we had to try again. The view at the top is mind-bogglingly beautiful (last pic). :)

Another new discovery for us... Castello di Vezio above Varenna. The walk up is not easy but the rewards at the top are absolutely worth it for those who love castles and truly incredible views!

We finally made it to Mauro Elli - Il Cantuccio, a restaurant in Albavilla we've been wanting to try for years. It was just outstanding and it's only 35 minutes or so from the villa. We'll be adding it to future trips whenever possible for sure! Put it on your list for your next visit if you can! What a wonderful experience!!

The design of the newly renovated Bernareggi in Bergamo's Città Alta is just beautiful! There are several sections but the Aula Picta (Bishop's Audience Hall) with its sublime frescoes is just good for the soul somehow.

The villa was hopping the last couple of weeks with wonderful guests from Wichita (and Rochester, MN!). We visited our favorite spots and explored some new ones and ate excellent food at home (compliments of Katharine Elder) and just had the best time! We are SO fortunate that such wonderful people choose to come on our trips (and we love that guests are also returning for a second time to see and do MORE fun things in the area!)!

We have room for 4-6 more guests Oct 11-17, 2026 (and Sept 27-Oct 3 for those who would like a slower pace)! Couples and singles welcome for both! October is a really lovely time to be in Northern Italy, especially if you love food made with amazing local veggies (grown in soil that's been beautifully tended for hundreds of years!). April 15-21 turned out to be a glorious time for a family from Wichita to be here! Our own gardens were lovely and the day trips to Bergamo, Como and Bellagio, and visits to Val Curone, were incredibly full of beauty. If you love flowers and stunning views and good food (and much smaller crowds), we can very highly recommend gathering up to 10 friends and renting the villa in April!
