Villa Fontanelle is a privately owned estate that is available, upon request, for short-term-lettings. The Villa is situated close to the hamlet village of Gioiella (meaning 'little jewel'), just 10 mins from Castiglione del Lago (PG), which is a fortified lake-town that extends straight into Lake Trasimeno. The household is at a median point between the three-main lakes of Trasimeno, Chiusi and M
ontepulciano. The local train station connects well to both Rome and Florence, and the A1 highway is reachable from both Chiusi and Sinalunga Exits. Florence is at a 90 mins drive, and Perugia aprox. 40 mins east. Pienza, and the Val D' Orcia are also close by (by car), and provides the gateway to the Tuscan natural Spa Region that expends from Rapolano, to San Casciano dei Bagni, and Bagno Vignoni (a thermal village that gave relief also to Florence's Lorenzo the Magnificent during the Renaissance). The Lands upon which the ancient edifice of Villa Fontanelle was constructed was once the hunting grounds of the Della Corgna Dukes, the ruling family of the small Duchy of Castiglione; once part of the Papal States. Historically, however, these lands have experienced influeces ever since the Etruscans (we recommend visiting nearby Chiusi's Etruscan ruins and Museum), as well as witnessing the passage of historical figures such as Hannibal where he defeated the Roman army in the epic 'Battle of the Trasimene'. Umbria, and in Particular Castiglione del Lago, have cotinued to thrive on an agricultural economy and, still today, tourists visiting can appreciate genuine and well-priced products from local farms and shops. The summer is packed with local festivals, or 'sagre', which offer visitors a true taste of some of the local cuisine, whether it be fish or game. Castiglione del Lago and Lake Trasimeno are places that allow one to experience relaxation, good food, and cultural interest. Villa Fontanelle will allow you to take hold of such a chance, whilst experiencing it from within your own Italian estate.
