The spa takes its name from the Roman cistern that once supplied water to the Monastery. Two thousand years later, the same vaulted walls hold a heated pool, a sauna, a hammam, and the quiet hours of the day.

Once an orchard kept by the friars, tended for herbs, fruit, and quiet contemplation, today it opens as a suspended terrace on the Valdichiana.
A pool, a patch of grass, a cedar older than any of us, and the stone walls of the 15th century holding it all in.

From some of our rooms, you look out and see it all at once: the water, the old stones, the hills.
The window becomes a small stage, and the day begins to breathe.

Five centuries have passed. The orchard is still here. Only the name has changed.

The first welcome of the day begins at the table.

When you arrive, a tiered stand is brought to you, warm pastries, cured meats, aged cheeses, seasonal fruit, a creamy yogurt from a small dairy a few kilometres from here.
A small gesture of welcome, laid out with quiet care. And then, there is the à la carte menu. Eggs cooked the way you like them, a freshly made omelette, a hot dish brought to your table.

Breakfast here is a conversation with the kitchen, not a buffet to walk through.
You can choose where to sit. The indoor room, with its soft morning light. Or the outdoor patio, surrounded by flowers, where breakfast meets the open air and the Valdichiana in the distance.

A slow Italian morning, served the old way. One pot of coffee, one unhurried hour, one quiet beginning.

He has been watching over the terrace since 1897.
San Benedetto, father of Western monasticism, sculpted in 1895 by Emanuele Trotti and placed here two summers later. The Latin inscription on the base still records the date: VIII Idus Iunii MDCCCXCVII.

Today, his terrace is the inner courtyard of the Monastery. Where he once oversaw the silence of the friars, he now watches Claudio mix Negronis at sunset.
The Rule of Saint Benedict prescribed moderation. We like to think he approves of the craftsmanship, if not always of the second round.
