🌋 MOUNT ETNA IS ACTIVE AGAIN 🇮🇹
Sicily’s legendary volcano is reminding us once again that this island is very much alive.
Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe and one of the most closely monitored volcanoes in the world, continues to show signs of activity from its summit area. Ash emissions have been observed from the summit craters, while volcanic tremor remains under constant observation by experts.
For Sicilians, Etna is much more than a volcano.
Known locally as “A Muntagna” — The Mountain, Etna has shaped the landscape, culture, agriculture and identity of eastern Sicily for thousands of years. Its eruptions have destroyed and transformed the land, but they have also created extraordinarily fertile volcanic soils where vineyards, citrus groves, pistachios and other crops thrive today.
Standing more than 3,300 meters above the Mediterranean, Etna dominates the skyline of eastern Sicily and has been erupting for hundreds of thousands of years. Its spectacular activity has fascinated travelers, scientists and local communities for generations.
In 2013, Mount Etna was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its exceptional geological importance and its long history of scientific observation.
Watching Etna erupt can be breathtaking, especially when glowing lava illuminates the night sky above Sicily. But behind these spectacular images lies one of nature’s most powerful forces.
Conditions around an active volcano can change quickly. Ash clouds, explosions, lava flows and access restrictions may occur depending on the level and location of the activity. Anyone planning to visit Etna should always follow official information and instructions from local authorities and volcanic monitoring services.
Etna doesn’t simply belong to Sicily’s landscape.

And perhaps that is what makes this volcano so extraordinary: while the world watches an eruption, Sicilians watch their mountain breathe.
