Creating masterpieces of architecture & design on 3,750 acre Umbrian

The ancient estate of Reschio stretches over thousands of acres of oak forests and olive groves in the Umbrian hills. With one of Europe's finest stables at its heart, Reschio is home to the Bolza family who, over the last twenty years, have been restoring its secluded ancient Umbrian farmhouses into masterpieces of contemporary architecture and design.

High up amongst mature oak trees, Palmieri is the newest house to join Reschio’s collection of places to stay. Smaller in scale, it offers a more contemporary design language. The stainless steel kitchen sits inside a wintergarden that opens straight onto the garden, creating the perfect setting for long lunches and evening gatherings. The interiors mix contemporary pieces from the B.B. for Reschio collection with
salvaged finds, mid-century furniture, paintings and custom-made details, including new Poggibonsi glass lamps and reading lights. Outside, a path winds between two mature oak trees towards the pool, passing a wood-fired pizza oven and outdoor seating areas with sunset views. The four bedrooms are calm and understated, while the Bathhouse, built into the ground with natural light filtering through, offers a quiet place to unwind. With its mature garden, contemporary design and private bathhouse, Palmieri is a new expression of Reschio. Available to rent from October 2026

A Landscape in Balance

The choice of plants at Reschio follows two fundamental principles. The first is the vision that our in-house Architecture and Design Studio imagines for each green area. The second, no less important, is the harmony required by nature.
A clear example of how these two principles come together can be found in the garden surrounding the Castle swimming pool.
Before the pool was built, a pine grove already stood in this area, and it was carefully preserved in its entirety. Today, the trees embrace the water, making it resemble a small country lake. In the areas closest to the pool, the choice fell on shrubs and plants that are as close as possible to Mediterranean scrub, such as rosemary, citrus, perovskia, privet, narrow-leaved mock privet and strawberry tree.
All the plants selected are hardy. The priority is that they should be able to withstand Reschio’s marked temperature variations, where the difference between minimum and maximum temperatures can average around 25 degrees, and that they should not require excessive watering.
For the houses, further criteria come into play. Wherever possible, the owners’ wishes are taken into account, but always with respect for the natural balance. In almost all the villa gardens, one can find centuries-old mulberry trees, once used as food for silkworms. Equally common are trees typical of the Italian landscape, such as maples, often used as supports for vines, as well as limes and plane trees.
The closer one moves to the houses, the more formal the garden design becomes, with ordered geometries and squared forms. Here, the great protagonist is box, present both as hedging and in pots. The resilience of this plant has been tested only by the box tree moth, a defoliating lepidopteran. To counter it, instead of resorting to pesticides, Bacillus thuringiensis was introduced: a biological solution that protects the plant from external attacks, in full respect of the environment

Years of refining flavours and techniques are distilled into each product created on the estate: the essence of Reschio in every bite, spoonful and sip

Sheep raised by local shepherds provide the milk for our Pecorino, Ricotta, yoghurt and Primosale

Bees living in forty hives across the estate produce our wildflower honey, with a distinctive woodland note in every jar

Olives are handpicked from 200-year-old groves and pressed within four hours to produce an intensely flavoured extra virgin olive oil

Leghorn hens roam freely across protected pasture, foraging on grasses, seeds and insects to produce the eggs served each morning to our guests

The estate is home to over 15 hectares of vineyards producing Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon
