September is a good month to visit Lake Garda with children.

There are fewer people than in summer, so the beaches are quiet and the roads are easy. You can still swim until the end of September, the boats still run and Gardaland is open.

In the evening, when the day gets cooler, Peschiera del Garda is a lovely place for a walk — and it's only a short walk from the village.

Walk along the old Venetian walls, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Look at the boats in the canals, enjoy a gelato and find a nice spot to watch the sunset. It's an easy walk, good with a pushchair or with older children.

"Can we have a barbecue?" is one of the questions we hear the most — and the answer is yes.

You can rent a barbecue at the market, or bring your own. Just one important rule: only charcoal barbecues are allowed in the village — no gas and no electric ones.
You can also buy charcoal at the market, so you have everything you need on site.

Then comes the best part: good food, the family around the table, and a long summer evening outside.
