The Trevi Fountain , scene of Anita Ekberg's dip in La Dolce Vita, is Rome's largest and most famous fountain. A flamboyant baroque ensemble of mythical figures, wild horses and cascading rock falls, it takes up the entire side of the 17th-century Palazzo Poli.

The famous tradition is to toss a coin into the water, thus ensuring that one day you'll return to the Eternal City

A breve distanza dall'Hotel Carmel Roma , raggiungibile con una comoda e deliziosa passeggiata, vi è uno degli angoli meno conosciuti ma sicuramente più suggestivi di Trastevere: i resti della Sinagoga di Nathan Ben Jechiel, che sorge in quello che oggi è Vicolo dell'Atleta.

Proprio questa strada portava il nome di Vicolo delle Palme per la presenza di questi alberi, simboli della Giudea: fu proprio qui infatti che si stabilì il primo nucleo della comunità ebraica della città, prima del suo spostamento nel rione S.Angelo, avvenuto nel periodo medioevale.

La Sinagoga fu fondata dal lessicografo Nathan ben Jechiel (1035-1106) e aveva sede dove oggi è situata una bella casa medioevale, con loggia ad arcate su colonne ed una cornice ad archi su mensolette in pietra: a conferma di questa ipotesi la colonna centrale dell'arcata presenta ancora oggi alcuni caratteri ebraici scolpiti nel marmo. La Sinagoga andò distrutta a seguito di un grave incendio il 28 agosto 1268.

CARTOLINE DI ROMA: IL FONTANONE DEL GIANICOLO

A pochi passi dall'Hotel Carmel Roma sorge la Fontana dell'Acqua Paola (meglio conosciuta con il nome di Fontanone del Gianicolo).

La fontana viene edificata tra il 1611 e il 1612 dall’architetto Giovanni Fontana con la collaborazione dell’architetto Flaminio Ponzio, su commissione del Papa Paolo V Borghese, i cui simboli araldici, l’aquila e il drago, sono presenti su tutta la struttura.

La costruzione della fontana aveva la finalità di fornire l’approvvigionamento idrico delle zone situate sulla riva destra del Tevere, in particolare il quartiere di Trastevere e la zona di Borgo, attraverso il ripristino dell’antico Acquedotto Traiano, alimentato dal lago di Bracciano.

La Fontana dell'Acqua Paola è uno dei luoghi più caratteristici della Città Eterna, da dove è anche possibile ammirare un panorama che vi lascerà senza fiato!
