Torcello, un'isola quasi disabitata, silenziosa, circondata da canneti e canali, custodisce una delle cattedrali più antiche e sorprendenti di tutta la laguna, la Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, fondata nel VII secolo. Dentro, i mosaici bizantini del pavimento e il grandioso Giudizio Universale raccontano una storia che precede Venezia stessa.

Il 15 agosto, giorno dell'Assunta, la Basilica si anima: nel pomeriggio la cerimonia religiosa, e a seguire il tradizionale concerto di musica sacra sulle note di Händel, Vivaldi, Bach e Pergolesi che risuonano tra le stesse colonne marmoree che hanno visto passare secoli di fede.

Non è solo un evento: è un pellegrinaggio nella storia. Un'isola-museo, un'oasi di natura tra acqua e cielo, che in estate riflette la sua luce migliore, quella luce che ha reso la laguna un soggetto senza tempo per l'arte.

Torcello, a quiet, almost uninhabited island surrounded by reed beds and canals, is home to one of the oldest and most striking cathedrals in the entire lagoon: the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, founded in the 7th century. Inside, the Byzantine floor mosaics and the grand Last Judgment tell a story that predates Venice itself.

On August 15th, the feast day of the Assumption, the Basilica comes alive: a religious ceremony in the afternoon, followed by the traditional sacred music concert with pieces by Händel, Vivaldi, Bach, and Pergolesi, resonating among the same marble columns that have witnessed centuries of faith.

L'arte a Venezia non ha una data di chiusura. Cambia stagione, cambia luce, ma resta — un padiglione in più ad ogni angolo di calle.
C'è chi la visita in un pomeriggio. Noi preferiamo lasciarla entrare piano, un'estate intera.

Art in Venice has no closing date. Seasons change, the light shifts, but it stays — another pavilion around every corner.

I fuochi si accendono sull'acqua, dove la Giudecca incontra il bacino di San Marco, e per una notte la città intera si specchia in sé stessa.
