RIU Hotels & Resorts celebrated the people behind its success on June 18th, as the company marked 25 years of operations in Jamaica with a special anniversary event which was held at RIU Montego Bay.

A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of 25 veteran employees who have been with the company since the opening of its first Jamaican property, RIU Palace Tropical Bay in Negril, in 2001.

Team members were honoured for their dedication, loyalty and contribution to the growth of the company over the past quarter century.
The recognition underscored the important role employees have played in helping RIU expand from a single resort operation to seven properties across Jamaica while consistently delivering exceptional guest experiences and service excellence.

RIU executives praised the honourees for their commitment and professionalism, noting that the company's success in Jamaica has been built not only on investment and expansion, but also on the strength of its people.

The anniversary celebration served as a reminder that employee engagement, retention and recognition remain critical pillars of sustainable growth in the tourism industry.

As Jamaica's tourism industry continues to expand with new hotel developments and growing visitor arrivals, industry stakeholders are being encouraged to strengthen support for local manufacturers capable of supplying the sector's increasing demands.

Among the success stories is Therapedic Caribbean, a Jamaican manufacturer that has built a sustainable supply chain serving some of the country's largest hotels, resorts and villas.

Its client portfolio includes RIU Hotels, Bahia Principe, Half Moon Resort & Spa, Secrets Resorts & Spa, Jamaica Pegasus, Palmyra Resort & Spa, SuperClubs Resorts, and numerous villas and boutique properties across the island.

A member of The Morgans Group, which has been operating since 1974, Therapedic Caribbean has become a strong example of tourism linkages in action creating jobs, supporting local industry and helping to retain more tourism earnings within the Jamaican economy.

"As Jamaica's tourism sector grows, there is tremendous opportunity for more local manufacturers to expand their capacity and become part of the industry's supply chain," said Aswad Morgan, Director of The Morgans Group.

With billions of dollars being invested in new developments, tourism stakeholders, developers and policymakers are encouraged to continue investing in and supporting local manufacturers that have the potential to serve the industry's growing needs. By strengthening tourism linkages and expanding opportunities for Jamaican suppliers, the country can build a more inclusive, sustainable and economically impactful tourism sector for generations to come.
