The calendar displayed on the ground floor of Sumidanagaya was designed by Kohei Sekita, a designer who lives in the neighborhood.
I look forward to the different designs each month.
The typeface for this month is apparently an original one created around 2022, inspired by the time displays seen on television.
This month’s advertisement is for Lokanta, the lasagna and world cuisine restaurant on the first floor of Sumidanagaya!
This calendar can be printed from the multi-copy machines at your nearest Seven-Eleven until 11:59 PM on Friday , September 23 th.

“Sumidanagaya” and “Lokanta” are scheduled to appear on the TV Tokyo program *Shutsubotsu! Adomachi-kku Tengoku* tonight at 9:00 PM!
The show will feature shops located near Sumidanagaya and around Mukojima-Hyakkaen Garden.
The shop located in the four-unit row house—which includes Sumidanagaya—will also be featured!

日本語は英語の後にあります。 Sumida Ward—home to Sumidanagaya—kicks off a packed schedule of events starting in September.
This year, in particular, features the "Sumida Art Festival" (organized by the ward and beginning on the 4th) and "Sumiyume," an initiative that has been running since 2016.
Both run for about four months—until December 20th—with events and exhibitions taking place at various locations throughout the ward.
Beyond these two major programs, there are local neighborhood festivals, the Sumida Jazz Festival, and more, making every weekend in Sumida Ward feel like a festive celebration!

特に今年は4日から始まる墨田区が主催の芸術祭”すみだ五彩の芸術祭”と”2016年から開催されている”すみゆめ”があります。
どちらも12月20日迄の約4ヶ月間は墨田区の何処かでイベント、展示が開催されています！
この２つ以外にも各地域のお祭りや、すみだJazzフェスなどもあり墨田区内は毎週末がお祭り騒ぎです！

The heat is still lingering, though...
September sees many festivals taking place around Sumidanagaya.
Also, the "Sumida Gosai Art Festival" kicks off this September!
As part of the festival, there is a special initiative inviting people to join in on local festivals.
It is designed for those who are curious about the festivals but aren't sure how to get involved or just want to try it out first.
A festival coordinator will be there to guide you, so you can participate with peace of mind!
An information session will be held on September 2nd!
We hope you enjoy the experience of a traditional *sh*tamachi* (old downtown) festival!

暑さはまだまだ続きますが、、。
9月は墨田長屋の周りでお祭りがたくさん開催されます。
また今年は9月から“すみだ五彩の芸術祭”が始まります！
この芸術祭の企画で地域のお祭りに参加してみよう！と言う企画があります。
お祭りは気になるけど、どうしたらいいかわからない、先ずは試したい方に体験頂く企画です。

Sumidanagaya has been featured in the *Chikyu no Arukikata* (Arukikata Travel Guidebook) guidebook for Sumida City, released today!
Before the days of smartphones and Google Maps, this was the go-to companion for overseas travel.
While the way we gather information has changed with the advent of smartphones, I’ve recently been drawn to their unique offerings—such as guides focused on specific areas like Sumida City or surprising projects like the *Continent of Mu* edition.
We at Sumidanagaya are truly delighted to be featured in a guidebook that was such a huge help to us on our own travels.

“地球の歩き方　墨田区”に、掲載されました！
スマートフォン、GoogleMapが無い以前は海外に行く時のお供はこの本でした。
スマートフォンの登場で情報の収集方法が変化しましたが最近では墨田区の様に地域を絞ったものや、ムー大陸などの驚きの企画で気になります。

He has been buying coffee beans from shops all over Japan during his stay.
It is a leisurely morning.

It is certainly hot.
Time flies, and August is already here.
I am worried about those affected by the Kumamoto earthquake, as they are enduring such difficult conditions in this heat.
This year, I haven't heard the sound of cicadas around Sumidanagaya.
I heard them just once, before the Sumidagawa fireworks display.
That sound usually makes the heat feel even more intense, yet its absence makes me feel uneasy.
How is it in your area?

暑いですね。
早いものでもう8月が始まりました。
熊本の地震で被災された方々はこの暑い中大変な環境下で過ごされてるので心配です。
今年は墨田長屋の周りでは蝉の鳴き声を聞きません。
一度花火大会の前に聞いたきりです。
あの音を聞くと暑さが倍増するのですが無いと不安になります。

The Sumida River Fireworks Festival!
This is the largest fireworks display in the area, a tradition held since 1733.
You can watch the fireworks right from the front of Sumidanagaya!
We look forward to enjoying the show with our guests and friends.
Also, the row house complex where Sumidanagaya is located will be hosting a “Nagaya de Hanabi” (Fireworks at the Nagaya) event!
At “Lokanta” on the ground floor of Sumidanagaya, we are holding a special event with Yuzawine.
We’ll be serving delicious natural wines paired with Lokanta’s cuisine.
“Ottomo,” two doors down, is preparing a fireworks special, too! And at “Mokoya”—three doors down—you can enjoy their famous fried chicken, deli dishes, and shaved ice, along with wines from Yuzawine!
Let’s all enjoy the fireworks festival together!
Though I am a bit worried about the weather...

Here are two exhibitions currently being held this month that have a connection to Sumidanagaya.
The first is “Kyojima: A Little Bit of the Past and Present” by Mr. Hoshina, being held until the 22nd at Satellite Kitchen and w.n.penguin in the Kirakira Tachibana Shopping Street in Kyojima.
Mr. Hoshina has been taking photographs mainly in Kyojima for over 20 years.
This area, where 100-year-old row houses and traditional scenery miraculously remain, is rapidly disappearing due to recent redevelopment.
Please compare the photos from a little while ago with those from today.
Satellite Kitchen is a cafe that serves delicious herbal teas and sweets.
w.n. penguin is a shop that repairs and remakes clothes.

The second is a solo exhibition by Mariko Uchida, being held until the 30th at Granary’s Coffee in Oji, Kita Ward.
Her unique works, bags, and stuffed animals are also available for purchase.

今月開催中の展示会を２つ紹介します。
１つは京島のキラキラ橘商店街にあるサテライトキッチンで22日迄開催中の保科宗玄さんの「京島ちょっと昔と今」です。
保科さんは20年以上前から京島を中心に写真を撮ってこられた方です。
築100年の長屋や昔ながらの風景が奇跡的に残っているこの地も最近の再開発で加速度的に無くなっています。
ちょっと昔の写真と今の写真を見比べてください。
21日10:00から保科さんと今写真集の場所を巡るツアーがあります。
