Ambience
Light going soft behind the ridge, someone in the pool watching the hills do their thing, sun crawling across a cushion, and then the sky breaking open in rays over the far hill. Nothing happens here.

You know that feeling when you walk into a room and instantly exhale?

That’s the feeling the lobby at Enkaji creates. It isn’t trying to impress with extravagant design. The walls curve because the hill curves.
The raffia, the woven rug, the soft grey linen everything feels so considered and so naturally drawn from the land around it that you stop noticing the individual pieces and simply enjoy the way the space makes you feel.

The Olesekut Hills, next to the Ngong Hills, an hour from the city. Every evening the light comes in low across the ridge and the whole valley goes gold for a while.

Nothing to do at this hour. That’s rather the point.

The kitchen is open.

Our restaurant is the newest thing at Enkaji, and Chef Del is the one running it.

Beetroot hummus, vegetables charred over flame, warm flatbread food that looks after you rather than performs at you.

Everything comes out unhurried, the way everything here does. You eat with the hills in the window and nobody comes to turn the table.😍

There are about twenty minutes each evening when the sky turns and the house turns with it.😍

The stone goes gold from the inside out. The acacias go to silhouette. The sky holds that deep blue for a while longer than you expect it to, and then it doesn’t.☺️

Nobody plans anything for this hour. You just happen to be outside for it.

Everything in this room came from somewhere close by.

Walls hand-worked and left with the marks still in them. Cedar posts at the headboard. Woven baskets on the wall instead of pictures. White linen, and by mid afternoon the light coming through in pieces and moving across the floor.☺️

Selly shaped these interiors by eye 🛘earth tones that answer what’s outside the window, texture instead of gloss, nothing in the room that doesn’t need to be.

Then you open the curtains and the hills are still there.
