Gamewatchers Safaris for exclusive safaris in the best wildlife areas in East Africa with day & night 4x4 game drives and guided walks with professional Maasai guides. A pioneer in eco-tourism for over 30 years, Gamewatchers combines environmental protection with cultural preservation by working with local communities on conservation projects. We are committed to helping preserve Africa’s unique w

ildlife, landscapes and local communities. We believe that the best way to do this is through sustainable ecotourism ventures that benefit the local communities and give our guests a rewarding experience. Our Porini Camps are a sustainable model that practically implements these principles. We are dedicated to providing our clients with exemplary personalised service and strive to have them leave as friends. The Porini Camps are situated within exclusive wildlife conservancies in Selenkay, Laikipia and the Mara. Each of our Porini Camps offers an intimate safari experience away from the crowds of tourists in minibuses. As well as the Porini Camps, we also operate two Adventure Camps, which offer the same high quality wildlife safari experience normally associated with top-end safari camps (e.g. day and night game drives, open-sided 4×4 safari vehicles, guided walks and expert guides) but at a hugely reduced price by staying in small basic adventure camps. These Adventure camps are ideal for those who are travelling on a budget but don’t want to compromise on their wildlife-viewing opportunities. We have received numerous international awards, so you can have confidence in Gamewatchers Safaris as one of the leading and longest established safari companies. Gamewatchers Safaris won “Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award” in the World Travel Awards for 2018 & 2019. Selenkay Conservancy won the 2018 Eco Warrior Award for “Best Conservancy in Promoting Culture and Heritage”. We have also won “Kenya’s Leading Safari Camp Brand” three times and “Africa’s Leading Tented Safari Camps” three times and we were “Kenya’s Tour Operator of the Year” in the 2015 Ecotourism Warrior Awards. In addition, our camps are regularly reviewed on TripAdvisor and all of our Porini Safari Camps have been recognised as TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame winners.

🌍 We’re proud to share that Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps has been nominated for the 𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐀® 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝

This award recognises organisations that deliver ethical wildlife experiences, respect animal welfare, educate travellers, and make a meaningful contribution to wildlife conservation and habitat protection.

Since establishing Selenkay Conservancy in 1997—the first community-owned conservancy in Kenya created through a partnership between a conservation-focused safari company and local landowners—we have believed that tourism should directly benefit wildlife, local communities and the landscapes they share.

Today, that same philosophy continues across the conservancies where we operate, supporting habitat protection, community livelihoods and exceptional safari experiences that put conservation first.

Being recognised alongside others committed to responsible tourism is an honour, and we thank our guests, partners, dedicated teams and the local communities who make this work possible every day.

Kenya’s safari story doesn’t stop at the savannah.

Beyond the Maasai Mara and Amboseli lies another wild world—where the Indian Ocean meets coral reefs, white sands, and ancient sea turtles gliding through turquoise waters.

From dolphins to green and hawksbill turtles, Kenya’s coast is just as alive as its plains—just moving to a different rhythm.

From bush to beach, savannah to sea—this is one journey, two wild worlds.

Kenya's wildlife story does not end on the savannah...But beyond the grasslands lies another extraordinary wilderness waiting to be discovered.

𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤

This week's highlights took us from the riverbanks of Meru to the open plains of Ol Kinyei, with some memorable wildlife encounters along the way.

🦛 A pod of hippos was spotted enjoying a peaceful daytime rest in Meru National Park, piled together in classic hippo fashion.

🦏 Meru also delivered excellent rhino sightings, a reminder of the park's importance as a sanctuary for these remarkable animals.

🦁 In Ol Kinyei Conservancy, Lembalang of the Sampu Enkare Breakaway Pride was seen looking in excellent condition as he patrolled his territory.

🐘 One of the most heartwarming moments of the week was a young elephant calf suckling from its mother, staying close to the herd as they moved through the conservancy.

🦁 We also spent time with the Sampu Enkare Breakaway Pride, whose members were relaxed and providing fantastic viewing opportunities.

Which sighting would make your safari highlight of the week?

🐾 Until next week — may your binoculars stay focused and your camera batteries charged!

At Gamewatchers Safaris, sustainability is about more than protecting wildlife and landscapes — it’s also about investing in the wellbeing and opportunities of the communities that share these spaces.

Recently, through a partnership with Padmad Kenya, Wildlife Habitat Trust and the generous support of Minal Shah, we supported menstrual health outreach at Lenkisem Secondary School and Olanti Primary School. Together, the initiative reached *311 students* and distributed *186 reusable menstrual kits*, helping improve access to menstrual health support and education.

Access to menstrual products should never be a barrier to education, confidence, or participation in everyday life. By supporting practical, long-term solutions, we hope to contribute towards creating environments where girls can continue learning and pursuing their goals with dignity.

Thank you to all partners involved in making initiatives like this possible. Small actions, working together, can create meaningful and lasting change.

On World Environment Day, we are reminded that protecting nature is one of the most effective ways to address the environmental challenges facing our planet.

Across Kenya’s wildlife conservancies, community-led conservation is helping to safeguard vast landscapes of grasslands, woodlands, and critical wildlife habitats. These natural ecosystems do far more than support biodiversity — they also act as important carbon sinks, absorbing and storing carbon while helping to maintain healthy, resilient environments.

At Porini Camps, we believe that conservation works best when people and nature thrive together. Through responsible tourism, local communities receive direct benefits from protecting their land and wildlife, creating sustainable livelihoods while preserving ecosystems for future generations.

Every guest who chooses a conservancy safari contributes to a model that supports habitat protection, wildlife conservation, community empowerment, and climate resilience.

This World Environment Day, we celebrate the power of partnership — between communities, conservationists, travellers, and the natural world. Together, we can help protect the landscapes that sustain wildlife, support livelihoods, and inspire future generations.

🌍

Sustainability at Porini Camps is about protecting wild spaces while supporting the communities who live alongside them. Through low-impact safari tourism, we help ensure wildlife habitats remain intact while creating meaningful local benefits.

Every guest stay contributes to conservation efforts that keep Kenya’s ecosystems thriving — from open savannahs to vital migration corridors.

Responsible travel isn’t a trend here; it’s the foundation of how we operate.

: What makes Selenkay Conservancy so important?

Join Selenkay Conservancy Manager Daniel Mamai as he introduces this remarkable community-owned conservancy and explains its significance for the Maasai community, wildlife, and the wider Amboseli ecosystem.

Established in 1997, Selenkay was one of Kenya’s pioneering conservancies, helping to demonstrate how conservation and community livelihoods can work hand in hand. The model developed here has since inspired conservancies across the country.

In recognition of its impact, Selenkay Conservancy was named the World’s Leading Conservation Programme in 2025.

Watch the video to learn more about the history, achievements, and ongoing importance of this award-winning conservancy.
