🎤 ARE YOU AN ALTO OR SOPRANO?
Here’s how to tell the difference.
A lot of singers choose a voice part simply because they like singing the notes in it.
But your voice type is not determined by the highest note you can force out. It has more to do with your comfortable range, where your voice sounds strongest, and where it naturally sits.
So… are you an ALTO or a SOPRANO? 👀
Let’s make it simple.
🎶 SOPRANO vs ALTO
1. RANGE
🔹 SOPRANO: Generally sings higher notes.
🔹 ALTO: Generally sings lower notes.
Think of it this way:
Soprano = higher territory ⬆️
Alto = lower territory ⬇️
Note: Exact ranges can vary depending on the singer and classification.

2. WHERE YOUR VOICE FEELS MOST COMFORTABLE
🔹 SOPRANO: Usually feels more comfortable living in the higher part of the vocal range.
🔹 ALTO: Usually feels more comfortable in the middle-to-lower part of the range.
Your most comfortable notes can tell you more than the highest note you can hit once.

3. THE SOUND/QUALITY OF THE VOICE
🔹 SOPRANO: Often has a naturally brighter, lighter or more soaring quality in the upper register.
🔹 ALTO: Often has a naturally deeper, warmer or richer quality.
But remember: voice colour alone cannot determine your voice type.

4. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO TOO HIGH?
🔹 SOPRANO: Higher notes may feel more natural and sustainable.
🔹 ALTO: Very high notes may require more effort or may sit outside the voice's most comfortable area.
But being an alto doesn't mean you can't sing high.
And being a soprano doesn't mean every high note will be easy.

5. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO TOO LOW?
🔹 SOPRANO: Very low notes may lose fullness or become difficult to project.
🔹 ALTO: Lower notes may feel more natural and retain more body.
Again, there is overlap. Not every singer fits perfectly into one box.

🚨 HERE'S THE BIGGEST MISTAKE SINGERS MAKE:
"I can sing a high note, so I must be a soprano."
