Progress, not perfection.

Every meaningful project begins with a vision. The first image represents our original dream—what we hope Yi Family will become. The second image shows today's reality.

There is still much to do. The landscaping has yet to grow, the finishing touches are waiting, and many small details remain unfinished. It is not perfect, but it is moving forward.

One lesson this journey continues to teach me is that plans are important, but flexibility is just as valuable. Every renovation brings unexpected challenges, new ideas, and opportunities to improve. Rather than chasing perfection, we focus on making steady progress, one step at a time.

We are carefully restoring a traditional Khmer wooden house while adapting it to provide a comfortable experience for future guests. Our goal has never been to build just another place to stay, but to create a home where people can experience genuine Cambodian hospitality, culture, and family life.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, supported, and believed in this journey. We are getting closer every day.

The dream remains the same. The path simply continues to evolve. 🌿🏡

A New Chapter for Yi Family

Today we say goodbye to a house that has been part of our family story for nearly 30 years.

This small wooden home was where many memories were created — family meals, quiet evenings, conversations with friends, and the everyday moments that slowly build a lifetime. For three decades, this house sheltered our family and witnessed many chapters of our journey.

Time, however, has its way with all things. After many years standing strong, the house has been seriously damaged by termites and can no longer be safely preserved. With gratitude and respect, we have made the difficult decision to take it down.

But this is not the end of the story.

The memories remain. What disappears is only the structure — not the spirit, not the meaning, and not the journey that started here.

In its place, we will build again. A new home inspired by the past, but designed for the future — a space that can continue to welcome people and serve a greater purpose, not only for our family but also for the community around us.

From the very beginning, our vision has always been clear: to live sustainably, care for the land through permaculture, support our local community, and create tourism that benefits the people and place we call home.

As we rebuild, we do so with deep respect for the past and strong hope for the future. The house may change, but the values that built Yi Family will remain the same.

Sometimes moving forward requires letting go of the old structure — so that the spirit behind it can grow even stronger.

A new chapter begins.
The roots remain.

There is something timeless about sunset on Tonlé Sap in Siem Reap.

As the sun slowly sinks behind the flooded forest, the lake turns gold… then orange… then soft purple. Fishing boats return home. Children wave from wooden houses. The evening breeze carries the quiet rhythm of village life.

For us at Yi Family Homestay, this is not just a view.
It is a reminder of why we do what we do.

We are proud to share that we have received the Traveller Review Award 2026 from Booking.com, with a score of 9.0 out of 10.

This award reflects moments like this sunset — simple, real, and heartfelt.

Guests who stay with us do not just visit temples.
They experience the living heart of Cambodia.
They feel the calm of the lake, the warmth of a family home, and the beauty of everyday life.

Sunsets on Tonlé Sap teach us patience.
Community teaches us gratitude.
And hospitality teaches us to keep improving.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey.

We look forward to welcoming you to watch the next sunset with us.

We are truly grateful and humbled to share that Yi Family Homestay has received the Traveller Review Award 2026 from Booking.com, with a score of 9.0 out of 10.

For a small family-run homestay in a Khmer village, this means a lot.

We are not a luxury hotel.
We are not a resort.
We are a family home that opens our doors to the world.

This award belongs to:

Every guest who trusted us and chose to stay in our village

Every smile shared at breakfast

Every conversation in the garden

Every honest review that helped us grow

Being located in a real local community, with natural village sounds and simple living, we always aim to offer something genuine — a place where guests can truly “Immerse in Culture, Live Sustainably.”

A 9.0 score tells us we are on the right path — but we will continue improving, listening, and caring for each guest as part of our extended family.

Thank you for believing in small local businesses.
Thank you for believing in Yi Family.

We look forward to welcoming many more guests home.
