The establishment of Sydney hotel in the year 1921 was immediately welcomed by the people of Galle town as it served the best beverages in the south of the island. The hotel has lived through many decades, most notably housing the soldiers of the allied nations during the second world war. The hotel was able to serve the most famous "gal arracku" in the year 1963 and establish it self as one of th

e few public bars in the country and has never been empty ever since. Serving many customers and followers of cricket matches the most popular group of customers being the barmy army who never fail to pay a visit as England & Sri Lanka battle it out at the Galle Cricket Stadium. The most devastating natural disaster of the tsunami in the year 2004 was a major setback to the hotel & the country as a whole. However the hotel was able to provide a helping hand by saving those around with the help of the elevated building. The Beer bar was revamped in the year 2013 by giving it a whole new outlook allowing customers to enjoy a chilled beer peacefully on a hot humid day. The famous Arrack bar was also revamped in 2014 however not altering the historical values it has created throughout the years.
